My photography club are putting on an exhibition at a local gallery and we've all been asked to submit up to 4 pictures for consideration. I'm new to this type of thing so am looking for a bit of help choosing my shots.

I've narrowed it down to ten but need help to decide which make the cut. Please can you let me know which you like, up to 4. Ignore the borders etc as they are lifted from my flickr account for ease. Those that look a bit small can be clicked for a larger shot.

If a mod could create a poll that would be great

Thanks for looking and voting I hope.

Shortlist for pictures:

1. River Bure – 22 Feb 08

2. Norwich Cathedral Crop 1 Feb 08

3. Bucket & Spade 27 Jan 08

4. Holkham Sky 27 Jan 08

5. Edgefield Sunrise 25 Jan 08

6. Aylmerton Sunrise 23 Jan 08

7. Customs House 20 Dec 07

8. Wells Quay 13 Dec 07

9. All Saints Briston 4 Dec 07

10. Hunworth HDR 27 Nov 07

5 or 8 for me my friend....
I like 4 but I can't put my finger on it, just doesn't do it for me.

1,2 & 8 for me! I'd pick 4 as well, but all the foreground detail has been lost....

5, 8, 10 for me

Blimey that was a quick set of responses, thanks folks:thumbs:.
Anymore for anymore?

I'll go with 5, 8, 9, & 10...

I'll go with 5, 8, 9 & 10 as well ... ... easily the pick of the bunch ... ;)

Good luck with you exhibition too ... :D

:p

2, 3, 5 & 10 here.

1. Not a fan, too many asymetrical lines converging for my tastes, and it's just a landscape without any real point of focus.

2) Although a little overcooked, it's got that something which is going to attract attention, decent composition and use of B&W

3) Lovely pic, beautiful composition, light, and point of focus. A real fan of the clarity and light you've captured.

4) Only average sky shot, horizon is a distraction rather than a feature, and what could have been a nice reflection is too crowded IMO.

5) Again looking a touch overcooked, but great colours, great use of reflection, lovely exposure. Again an attention grabber.

6) Loving the layers on the landscape, real presence and atmosphere, but whether it's the size of the picture or not, there isn't enough detail in the sky to detract from the bland grey you've got.

7) Smashing lines, composition and exposure, ruined entirely by that big shadow across most of the building. :(

8) A little unbalanced, and a touch bland, nothing really to excite interest. Neither dark enough to make give the boats mystery, or light enough to make them a feature.

9) Really nice shot. The more I look at this one, the more I like it, but I get the impression it's not striking enough for a lot of people. IMO. A little fiddling to bring more out of the sky might give this a little more punch.

10) Any chance of a larger version to check some of the details. HDR really saves this one, and those rolling hills make me want to go walking. Beautiful.

hope that justifies my choices somewhat....

Excellent piece of critique thanks Breaker, I appreciate the time you've gone to for me.

If you click on 10 it'll take you to my Flickr page where you can select a larger shot.

Thanks again everyone, there are some clear favourites emerging.

8 & 1 :D

5. Like the composition, colours and textures
8. Like composition, colours and tones and the whole early morning mood quiet and still waiting for the day to start. Although it could do with something to make the water and boats stand out a little more.
9. Like composition and B&W conversion giving the whole image a dreary, sad feel which works well. It is a graveyard after all.

My choices

well webcaf and i are sitting here together so
webcaf 2 4 8 9
sportysnaps 2 5 8 9

nice set

1 and 8 stick out the most for me mate

Like all of them really

Tony

5 & 8 are very nice

:thankyou:

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback, very much appreciated. We have a couple of clear winners with 5 & 8 being the most popular by far... time to get some prints done I think.

5 and 8 are the only ones that caught my eye.

I assume you don't need the poll now. For future reference - please report your own post using the
report.gif
button and just type in that you would like a poll added to the thread.

reported posts start a thread in the staff room and the first mod to see it can sort you out :)

5 and 3, in that order.

5 may require a small rotation to straighten the left horizon (could just be me). You might also try 3 with more contrast, black and white, and selective colouring on the child -- otherwise, the colours are a bit bland.

5, 8, 9, 10 for me

Nice problem to have though, choosing from those.

5 7 8 and 9 these stand out the most to me
all good but for aexhibition i would go those due to the interest and emotions that they catch
