Hi everyone. This is my first time so be gentle. In December I am going on a tour of the Canadian Rockies. Dueto lack of space I won't be able to take my full kit with me so am relying on my Canon G10. Should I take my pictures using the RAW format or can I rely on the snow scene mode. I would be gutted if my pictures are not up to par. Thankyou. :help:

Am I in the wrong place for this kind of advice?:'(

If in doubt, shoot RAW - it might be a touch slower, but you'll keep an element on control at the PP stage. Enjoy your trip!

Personally id go raw everytime. ive only just started using raw for everyphoto but now i never use anything but raw. the only problem is you need alot more memory but its cheap nowadays anyway!
Im rubbish with photoshop and even i can rescue a photo to a certain degree!

Hi - Whilst the Scene modes on modern cameras (DSLR & Compact) are great I'm not sure I would rely on them to take pics on a trip like this - You say you are a DSLR user so surely you could adjust your G10 to ensure you get the correct exposure? - Snow is notoriously tricky to get exposure right & I'd be double & triple checking any pics to make sure they are up to scratch
As to RAW that is obviously the safer option - The G10 lets you do RAW & Jpeg like a DSLR iifc (?) - If you've got plenty of memory cards that would be my choice ...
