I need to buy a new desk top tower and am a complete pc numpty.

I have narrowed it down to 2 which are both sold locally to me. (Which is important)

Although this one... http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/irush.html says £459, by the time i add windows etc it comes in at £630

Or this one... http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-p7-1058uk-desktop-pc-metallic-finish-10452263-pdt.html

I am assuming they will both do the job but would like some advice from someone who knows what all the numbers mean!

It's main use will be for photo editing and i need to be able to use 2 screens.

On another note. I currently have CS4 on my pc and laptop. It says you can only use it on 2 systems. As i have used it on 2 systems do i have to buy it again or can it still be uploaded to my new Pc?

I built my own desktop around 14 years ago. The biggest hard drive available at the time was 4gb LOL. It cost me around £500 to built buying all the different things needed. Had I purchased one ready built off the shop shelf, to the same spec as the one I built myself, it would have cost me over £1,000.

Like said above build it yourself it's easy.
 
The difference between self build and shop build is not so much these days - although you will get better spec components for a home build. I love my i7 machine, but the i5 second gen (i.e. i5-2xxx) aren't that far behind in reality when you're doing 90% of things. Depends if you want to save £150 vs a slower performance on image processing (which can use all cores on the i7 if you are running a program like Lightroom or Photoshop).

Really depends what your priorities are...
 
I'd also look at the likes of Aria and overclockers for systems as well, as the weekly deals they do might give you the system you want for a better price if you time it right. I got a system recently from overclockers for £330 and ok only a dual core but for what i need it works fine but they threw in Windows 7 Home Premium 64 for free at the start all i needed to add was the graphics card.

Edit : Also forgot to add earlier to the post the system i bought is still upgradable to a higher processor and up to 8gb of Ram later on, so even though it was on the weekly deal it still has a little leeway in future for keeping up to date.

I don't understand why anybody would buy a desktop PC from a retail seller, Crap parts, crap specs, and crap prices.

Seriously, just build your own.

It really annoys me,

Fair enough the manufacturer might use a nice sandy bridge i7 but then they stick it on a crap motherboard with slow ram, ridiculous, and like you say, cheap PSU's

If you really can't process building your own for fear of ability I'm sure a member locally can help, if you really dislike the idea perhaps try somebody like http://www.ukgamingcomputers.co.uk/ they specialise in gaming computers (you might not use it for games) but at least you know it has decent parts.
 
And if you're scared of a self build a quick hunt on YouTube will show you just what an absolute doddle it really is.

I can build a house and i can build a motorbike but there is no way i am building a PC. It may be easy for some but i'm not interested in doing it

If you de-acitivate CS4 on one of your computers and then install it on your new computer you'll be fine as you still have only two activated CS4's at any one time.

incidentally what youre promoting may be well documented but its still breaking the EULA (for starters assuming you have a legit key to transfer) otherwise its still software theft.

For CS 4 you can call adobe and have them transfer the license.. Or something. Never had to do it so don't know first hand but it's in the manual :)

Ps, I have the novatech iFlame pro running photoshop cs5 with an extra HDD & it's fab. I was initially looking at getting the iRush, but reviews were less than perfect and it's been nicknamed the iCrash.. :/

If you have a MS Windows key to transfer, you can just transfer it - you don't need any workarounds.

With CS4 open click on help at the top of your window go to deactivate in drop down menu and click, that way you can deactivate on one computer and install your CS4 on another computer.
Pure and simple and legit!

i have photoshop installed on laptop, desktop (home) and desktop (work). If you don't deactivate one of the installs then Adobe just pops up a splashscreen telling you to deactivate within 30 days otherwise it will stop working.

Simple to do and you can swap and change which pc's you want to use the program on as and when required as long as there's only 2 at any one time.
