Hi there have narrowed my choices down to three Macro lenses for my 450D but cant make my mind up. Which one would you choose and why? Only to be used for plants no etc?

Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG

Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM

Tamron 90mm F2.8 SP Di

Are these an overkill for what i am looking to do or will the 50 - 60MM be fine, which are far cheaper?

Just for plants, no insects?

Just for plants id say the 90mm Tamron, however if you want to photograph living creatures you may be better off looking at the 105 Sigma to give you that extra bit of distance between you and your subject

Do you need a macro for this?

Some flower photography can be almost gynecologically detailed at times with all those stamen close-ups..

Are you trying to render very small detail here?

I am not a Canon user myself, but I have tried Canon's 100 on my friends 40D - very sharp and fast focus, so this one would be my choice :)

I've had the Canon for over a year now and its a delight to use - highly recommended! :)

Some examples here: Food and more Food

I also hear the Sigma 150mm is pretty good!
