Can't stand watermarking on images, waste of time (as theft protection) unless done really obviously across the centre, and then it spoils the shot anyway

But if you must do it, stick it big across the middle as otherwise anyone wanting to pinch it will just crop it off anyway

Yeah, realised that. I was expecting 2 images to compare between the two.
 
Top one but much smaller and discreetly placed, not for copy protection but more so someone could contact you if they liked your photos.

Bottom one but smaller and something else done with the year and copyright as it's just too big

however it's the greatest of two evils, that font screams out amateur to me but seems to be the weapon of choice for so many photographers

have a shufty around some typography sites perhaps for better choices and even go as far as purchasing a decent font if this is your chosen profession :)
 
Neither tbh. I find that fonts like that are trying too hard to be your signature. A simple classic font like arial, verdana, works just as well.
