Yes
Nikkor 10-24mm F3.5/4.5 AF-S DX G ED @ £599.99

Sigma 10-20mm F4/5.6 EX DC HSM @ £399.99

Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX @ ~£350

Tamron AF 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di-II @ ~£350

I will be using it for mainly rig shooting on my DX format D90, hoping to start quite a discussion as I want to buy one lens and be happy with it and not have to change months down the line

I haven't used that particular lens - but after a lot of chopping and changing - all my kit is Nikon. :)

Nikon for me had mine couple months now still learning how to use it properly so far images straight off camera are very very good indeed,

Just make sure the filters you purchase to protect the glass are the pro series, I currently have the hoya pro 1polariser and don't get any vignetting @ 10mm

You don't need filters to protect the glass - use the lens hood - and a little care. Filters will almost certainly do nothing beneficial and will probably adversly affect the image.

I use a Tokina 11-16 on my D90 and it's fab. The focal range is narrow though - it depends what you want to use it for. The Nikon might be more useful with the wider range, although you don't get the wider aperture.

good points guys, the sigma apeals to me for the following reasons:

good focal range, good price (compared to nikon), relatively good reputation, and I can get it from a shop locally thus easy if any problems arise, whereas tokina and tamron they do not do AFAIK

keep 'em coming! Example images would be great if you guys have any

I use the Sigma on a D90 which is fine but I have that nagging feeling that I should have bought the Nik and will probably do so this year.

Personal preference,

I have the tokina 11-16. Wonderful creative lens. Have a hoya uv filter on it as I didn't want to scratch the lens... might have softened my pics slightly.

If you want to see, follow the flickr link in the siggy, right hand side is a link to sets and one of those sets is the tokina shots.

I'd recommend it as a decent lens :)

Hello again Luke couple without PP for you before you make your purchase if there is anything in particular you want a capture of? please let me know and i will try my best to help out, these have been taken with my filter attached, I hope that isn't a crime?

cheers kevin, if you could do some pictures of cars? get as close as you can on minimum focusing distance, and try to capture the whole car in the frame. also get someone else to photograph you to show how far you are from the car itself

thanks :)

Just sold my Tokina 11-16 as it only works on DX otherwise I would still be using, very nice lens for me but I never had another UWA so can't speak for comparisons...

Will have a go in morning Fellow member ;)

Not as wide - but the Nikon 17-55mm is hard to beat - I do have that one - almost permanently bolted to one of the D2Hs bodies.

Took these with my Sigma if it helps you at all, one with a van in as well

Happy days maybe my day will come too, i take it you have an eye for detail, can you tell me what you notice with the telephone box image? and would like to open the offer to all Fellow TP Members too , can you spot it??

I have a Nikon 10-24. I took these at a ZSOC meet.

I was a few foot away from the car at the most, you can see the lens in the shadow

I love my Nikon and glad I paid the extra for it.

Sigma 10-20mm F4/5.6 EX DC HSM @ £399.99

Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX @ ~£350

Tamron AF 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di-II @ ~£350

Where are you quoting those prices from?

Following this thread with interest.

Roger is your image straight from camera or has it been HDR'd?

I recently bought the Tamron 10-24 forCanon and am completely satisfied with it and it's performance. I paid £299 at the time from Amazon.

I do like my Tamron and the quality other than the corners at 10mm is very good. They can also be had for less than 350 too. I'd have the Nikon but between 230£ for the Tamron and 600£ for the Nikon there was no contest.

My next lens and last for a while will be one of these..

So some more reviews would be nice.

I had my mind set on the Tokina AF 11-16mm or the Nikkor..

:)

Any pictures I have straight from camera are locked away in Lightroom ;)

A subtle mix of HDR and the original exposures ;)

This is SOOC

Thanks Roger. I asked as the HDR effect was very subtle so wondered if had been HDR'd at all or was possibly due to a charactersitic of the Tokina lens.

Cooor thanks guys, this is becoming a great help. It's becoming apparent that just because the nikon is the most expensive, I may get similar/same results with a cheaper lens! Looking like the tamron/tokina at the moment given the price

and for whoever asked where I got the prices from, do you mind me asking why? I only had a quick google

I have the Tamron but at those prices you are quoting I would go for the Tokina. From which reputable company can you get it for ~£350 ?

I've just bought the Sigma 10-20 and I'm very happy with it on my Nikon D90 although I am just an amateur :)

I'm happy with the images I get from my Tamron 10-24 (not far off my 2.8 NIkon zooms in sharpness and contrast IMO), but the focusing is slow and noisy, and the focus ring turns on autofocus. If you are going to use the lens a lot the Tamron might annoy you after a while if you are used to Nikon AF-S lenses.

I'm not a wide angle fanatic, so I put up with it for what it cost and the use it gets. But I'd rather have the Nikon. :(

Good morning Luke all overcast this morning had to take them at this time because i am on duty today, these where taken on cameras auto settings and no filters attached and no PP too, all @ 10mm. like you asked i didn't have anyone to show me taking them i just added them using my phone to show you focal length.
