Hi, I am looking to invest in a macro lens for the little detail shots for newborns and also as a general macro for flowers/bee's etc. I cant decide which one to go for but likely it will be between the 60mm and 105mm. Im thinking 60mm for tight areas for the babies but really looking for advice and your own thoughts and experiences please. I have'nt used a macro lens before apart from years ago when I had a play with an old and slow tamron. Many thanks in advance.

Iv'e not got much experience with macro but in the latest edition of n photo which is a nikon magazine the sigma 105 came out top on test

I use a 60mm on my D300s (equivalent to 90). There are times when I crave for the extra working distance the 105 would give me and that's on a crop body.

105 for sure! I use it for babies too. It also doubles up as an awesome portrait lens. It's relatively slow at focussing but you just can't argue with the IQ, sharpest Nikon glass I own.

105mm nikkor (d) - link in sig to pic - Plus tubes :D

Or you could look at a sigma 105 or for more working distance a sigma 150mm (105mm is working distance an inch to 10cm ish -- get too close to those insects and they buzz off...!)
Alternative macro lens would be a tamron 90mm.

If you have a longer mm lens, you could try the raynox 250 for around 40ukp...

Thanks everyone - it looks as though the 105 may suit me better (dang - lots of extra £'s)!! I clearly know nothing about macro because I was thinking 60mm would give me space and distance.

Ecniv - thanks for the link to your photos. They look great.
