Hi, making this thread on the behalf of my dad.

Hes got a D40 at the moment, and hes looking to upgrade it. He ideally wants a camera which has the auto focus motors built into the body so that he has more choice when it comes to looking at lenses.

His budget is £350 and obviously is looking second hand. Hes looking body only, hes going to buy my old 35mm 1.8 to start with then he will gradually build up his lenses. He was looking at the D200 but I'm sure he could get something better?

I'm thinking the D90 will be a good shout?

Any recommendations? Cheers

There's nothing wrong with the D200 but it is quite a bit heavier than the D40 and takes CF cards rather than SD cards.

The D90 would be a good bet if you can find one for that price. Lighter and smaller and newer than the D200 of course, and uses SD cards.

The D5100 is a great little camera and is similar in size to the D40, newer than the D90 but you would probably struggle to find one at that price again.

A nice clean d90 is certainly within that budget, would be a nice upgrade too.

:agree:

OP stipulated in-body AF capability, I thought the 5100 was one of the bodies minus that feature?

Another vote for the D90.

Whilst you are correct - the Fuji is certainly not a Nikon - it is a D200 in wolf's clothing. Moët to choose between them and the F5Pro uses Nikon lenses :-)

The sensor in the Fuji is also a bit special and gas a wider dynamic range than the D200.

I'd go for the D90 though :-)

Technically it is, it's a D200 body with a (superior) Fuji sensor in it and takes Nikon lenses ;)
