I see a few questions about printers so hope this doesn't annoy
Wish to buy a new A4 photo printer, has to be good quality and am used to Epson but not necessarily committed.
Advice please
Thanks

Merv, I used to have an Epson and wasn't very impressed with it, swapped to a Canon iP printer and straight out the box was much better and I've been very happy with it and have recommended lots of times.

I've only used genuine inks and never had a problem.

I use a Canon MG6350 for the odd photo print and general home use. This has uses 6 inks - the CMY + grey + two blacks.

The quality of output looks reasonable to my eye (using Canon's inks). But it's not cheap to run. It insists on doing frequent head cleaning cycles. If you're only printing the odd print then these seem to waste a disproportionate amount of ink and make the cost of running even high. However the upside to this overhead is that I've not had any issues with print quality due to clogging over teh 18 months I've been using it.

I think if I was buying today then the MG7550 is the equivalent in terms of using 6 inks - or I'd maybe look at the ip8750 which uses the same inks and doesn't have a scanner but will print to A3+.

Thanks Andrew I saw the ip8750 this afternoon in Currys. Thats the only half decent photo printer they sell!!
Have read good reports about the Epson 1500 W, anybody any experience?

I have taken delivery of a very cheap Epson Workforce 2010w (not All in One) and it is printing great A4 gloss, Canvas and Matt A4 prints.

I was very surprised considering the cost.

I previously had a Epson photo stylus C66 and it failed after 6 years of good prints. (could not handle coated watercolour archive 190gsm) so had to replace it. The workforce is working well so far.

Have you seen the Q&A about this printer at Amzon? If true, could be expensive... not that you need to use Epson inks so much, as having to replace all the inks when one empties. NB I don't know if this is true or not.

Yes. Read all the reviews and taken note of that. It only has startup inks at the moment but I intend to install all new.

A set of non epson from my current supplier costs £20 for set of 16XL.

The point about all inks change only means not to mix genuine and non genuine inks.

I have never replaced my printers ink supplies with genuine ink.

Avoid Epson and you'll be fine.

Hi all ive got a cannon mg7550 4 months ago and love it, the print quality is out of this world

Personally I'd choose one of the Canon range that suits your needs best... Also, feel free to PM me if you want a discount on buying ink as I work for a UK supplier.
