I've recently bought an Epson V500 scanner which can scan negatives in various sizes from 35mm to 120 roll film. It costs around £150 from Amazon.
 
wicked, thanks ill have a look at that.
Abit out of my budget, but i wouldnt mind scanning both my 120 and 35mm work...

Without wanting to appear too blunt, save your money, this is worse than useless.

The Epson V500 on the other hand will serve you very well both for your 35mm and 120 film. Not quite as good as a dedicated film scanner like the Coolscan 9000 but about £1800 cheaper. There are quite a few guys in the F&C section that get very good results from the V500 and for the price they're hard to beat.
 
Right i see. so for best results gonna have to extend the budget? thanks for the info will definitely look further into that
 
Definitely worth paying a little extra, the V500's do appear on Ebay every now and again for about a £100 and they also pop up on Gumtree at reasonable prices.

In actual fact there are a couple on Gumtree at the moment £50 in Leicestershire and £80 in Bethnal Green, of course they could have gone by now but you get the idea.
 
Another vote for the V500. I pondered for some time berfore getting one but I have been really pleased with the results I am getting. I think you would be hard pressed top find something better for the sort of money they cost and as has been mentioned they do come up used from time to time.
 
If you're patient you can find some of these scanners for bargain prices on eBay, gumtree, etc.

I picked up my Epson 4490, which the v500 replaced, for £4 off of a site called preloved.co.uk (I hadn't heard of it before, but it's essentially like gumtree) and I've got some pretty good results with it, I think.
 
4180, 4490, 4990, V500. All capable, excellent scanners. You are devoting time and energy into digitising treasured pictures, so why not do it properly once? Scanners hold their second hand value well!
 
I picked up a HP4850 for 10.00 but can't seem to get it to scan negatives under Windows 7 64 bit.

got the same really pleased with the scanner and I am using it under windows 8 64 bit, you have to install vista driver in compatibility mode. And I use VueScan with it. Works like a dream.

H'mm you can always partition your hard disk for win 7 32bit and win7 64bit...I have this as 32bit partition is used for my grand children for games and all spyware carp etc stays on there..erm to be cleared up after they have left :eek:
 
Hello also looking at getting a scanner, my budget is £100 or less and hope to get a V500, but has any used a V330? or V200? they seem a bit cheaper.

Also can someone point me in a go DIY tutorial using a DSLR for the mean time?

Those won't do anything bigger than 4 35mm slides or a line of 6 35mm negs. They're probably fine as long as you don't intend on going MF any time soon.

I do currently shoot MF but using 35mm alot more lately.

We have V700 at college which I use a lot of the time, it's just having wait for others and teachers aren't a fan when I sit and scan a roll or two of film in lessons ;) so want to do more at home.

I had a quick look as it's about time my old Epson 1240U was upgraded, But the V500 is actually listed on Amazon at £316.00.

EDIT: Don't know where I saw the price at £316.00 as It's now £286.00

I bloody hate those skim word things, I know they generate income but to be honest I'd rather pay a yearly fee not to have to put up with them, and as you've just proved they are disingenuous and often direct you to outrageously priced suppliers.

v330 is pap, I shelved mine after a few months
