Hi

I am about to change job and say goodye to my work Blackberry that I also use for personal calls

I'm tempted by the iPhone 4 (yes I know it's going to be expensive!) or perhaps the HTC Desire

I'm currently on Vodafone and it's OK - no more. I was thinking that when I chane I'd be looking at O2 or Orange.

what's your experience and / or thoughts for coverage / value for money and customer service?

Thanks in advance
Adrian

I can't comment on Huddersfield, but I think O2 have the best coverage overall in the country - although they're all fairly good. I'd imagine in a large city you wouldn't have much trouble.

It's worth bearing in mind that with T-Mobile, if you run a coverage check when you register a contract with them, if you're not satisfied with the coverage after you get your phone you can get a full refund no questions asked.

Thanks Julian

I'll take a look at T-mobile (PS aren't they being bought out/merged with Orange - I think someone at work mentioned it?)

From what I have heard, T-Mobile is a big steaming pile of.... rubbish.
I have used 3 for years. My only niggle is no edge internet, 3g only :(

Personally, apart from the last week where the vodafone mast has been down(credited me this months rental though, and £5 too), I've had very few problems with Vodafone. I'd recommend them without a doubt, they have the best coverage. :)

Not round by us they don't (London City)

They've got issues with one of their masts inthe city that's been ongoing for about 9 months now, and a poor service in the aldgate aresa inside buildings is the result.

O2 are going to limit bandwidth to 500mb on new contracts (from unlimited) for the £25 a month. £60 pcm will get you 1Gb.

So double check what bandwidth you are likely to get or it might turn out to be an expensive mistake if you are a heavy internet user.

I can only get Vodafone at work and now at home with the gateway.
I can't use anyone else here in the sticks. I don't have a choice.

I've got T-mobile on my phone and O2 on my iPad. 3G coverage seems to be better with T-mobile in the areas I've been :)

I had a chat with a mate who works for Carphone Warehouse and he reckons that O2 were just the first and that all the others are likely to follow suit in the very near future (although one of 'em will probably not do it just to keep a sales advantage).

Apparently, there aren't all that many users who will get anywhere near the 500mb or 1gb limit that O2 have imposed. I checked back through all of my old bills and combined they don't total anywhere near 500mb and I use my data service quite a lot. :)

All they seem to have done is make their Fair Use Policy an upper limit now which doesn't bother me too much.

I agree with you - I think the overall tariffs are likely to be very similar

My friend is on O2 and he doesn't have too many problems although another friend 'swears' by Orange

Guess I might just have to wait for Orange to show their tariffs then compare....

I'm going to stick with O2, but probably with my simplicity tariff though.

I've just switched from O2 to orange as they seem to have the better coverage, as far as I am concerned in a lot of areas. Orange also quote unlimited internet ( subject to fair use) however this is limited to 750Mb so I wonder how Unlimited relates to 750Mb. Having said that I never really got near that on O2.

I use my 3gs constantly when out and have 3 email accounts on push/fetch. I have used 1.2GB in 6 months so realistically you would have to be a net junkie on an iphone to use more than 500mb a month. If you do? Buy a bolt on, it's cheaper.

Orange claim to have the biggest 3G network, but then again, so do 3. All providers can sell the phone and apart from my weekday flat in Aberdeen, Orange works great. They were giving the most for your money in January regarding minutes/texts.
Until all the new revised tariffs are out on Tuesday (I suspect) then it's hard to tell who's doing what although I reckon o2 & voda will impose restrictions, Orange will (probably) remain unlimited and I aint got a clue about 3. As for T-Mobile, they are becoming part of orange (both being owned by france telecomm) they will easily beome huge when they merge and can offer good coverage and hopefully I can get some signal in the lead lined flat I live in!

I spoke to Orange about this and tbh you will be warned for 3 months before they impose restrication on your account. Unfortunately this brings the age old argument of unlimited means 'With Limits'

I would put my money on O2

As mentioned above O2 were your best option but they reduced the Internet allowance.
I think the other networks will go down this path, I'd bet that 3 don't though.
However, I'd still go with O2, been with them for years and their customer support is great too. Just hope their prices are good on the new iPhone. Can't wait :)
