Which Memory Card?

Back on track

@Haldir the Nikon 35mm f1.8 DX was the sharpest lens I'd ever had at the time, and gives a field of view close to a 50mm and what's basically close to how we see things ourselves. Its a great lens and one I had great fun & photos from :)

Dave

Personally, having had 2 copies of that lens, I'd give it a miss. The first was truly terrible, and the second was inferior to any of my 50mm lenses (albeit shot on a different camera, but a test using it on my FX cam in full frame showed it to not be great anyway). I'd avoid it. The D7000 has the AF drive motor, which allows the use of older AF lenses, often referred to as 'AF-D' (although this is a bit misleading cos standard older 'AF' Nikkors work fine too). The 35mm F2 AF/D is an excellent lens, and can be had s/h for around what a new DX version would cost. Of course the current 35mm f1.8 G FX version is really good, but a good bit pricier. For a nice 'portrait' lens for the D7000, also consider the older 50mm f1.8D. That is an excellent lens. Slightly longer, a bit shallower in depth of field, so a bit nicer for portraiture. You could probably find one for £60-70.

Appreciated Dave and AZ6...Funny how folk have different experiences with the same piece of equipment, either one on their own would be be helpful, but together,
it's 50/50...I think the used prices of the 35mm F2 are a bit on the high side at the moment, I could get the 70-300 for a little more which would be more useful at the moment.
Perhaps I'll have a look for a short zoom without a plastic mount, and hopefully, not much more than £100.00...

You know what; plastic mount aside, the 18-55mm 'kit' zoom that's bundled with many lower end Nikon DSLRs is actually not bad at all. Gives a 27-82.5mm equiv zoom range. I bought a 16-85mm zoom for my D3300, which has a better range, but the 18-55 would suit your needs well. You could easily get one for under £50; but don't get the newer 'AF-P' version, as it won't work on your cam. The older G/2 versions are fine. Cheap enough to enjoy using and not worry too much about. I bought a broken one cheap, years ago, for my D200, and a new plastic mount for £3. Sold it on for a decent little profit. It'll get you taking pics, which is the main thing.

Excellent. Don't worry; the D7000 is a great camera, and much more versatile than a D5600, due mainly to that AF drive motor. And you can use older manual focus lenses too! For wide angle stuff, landscapes and that, AF isn't as important. Soem of the MF lenses are fantastic quality, and can be had for a lot less than AF equivalents. Wide angle is going to be a bit trickier with the DX sensor; you're looking at 16mm just to get a 24mm FX equivalent. Lots of WA zooms around though, like this:

I have one of those, which is no longer required... ;)

Yes, this is what's frustrating about DX. I looked at the Nikon 10-20 as a future lens but found it's not compatible. I did come across the Tokina as an alternative, just a bit out
of the price range with trying to get two lenses for peanuts:giggle: Bloody tempting though!

Yes. What I would say, is try to avoid spending loads on DX only lenses, cos if and when you do decide to move up to FX, those won't be very useful. So say £50 spent on a 18-55mm lens, is peanuts compared to spending hundreds on a DX-only wide angle zoom. That might mean you concentrate more on portait/tele lens type shots, but maybe that will help concentrate your mind more on picture taking. Less is often more.

Just ordered an 18-55, I'm loosing too many brain cells worrying about camera equipment I can't afford. Time to crack on. All the basics are their way so in a couple of days I should be up and running:giggle:

Hopefully not one of the latest AF-P versions? These won't work on the D7000.

No, thankfully I came across that over the weekend...I went with this one Nikon, AF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED DX VR II

Good choice. For the money, you'll hopefully get some good pics. I bought the broken one and fixed it, to go with my D200 so I'd have a DX lens (the only otherAF lens I had at the time was a really old Sigma 28-70 zoom, which wasn't anywhere near wide enough at the short end) I could use. Took some decent (to me) photos with it. Including this one:

I do like that, not something I ever photographed architecture...Besides being in the press (Got out around 97) I enjoyed underwater photography
for a few years then spent around six may be seven shooting products for a wholesaler...Nothing exciting and I spent more time on Photoshop
and updating the website...

Well, I've had a couple of emails saying everything has been dispatched this afternoon, it would be nice if camera and lens arrived tomorrow:giggle:
No idea when the memory card will turn up!
