Yes
So i got myself the lencarta flash heads and now looking into buying stands that will support them.

There are 2 stands from lencarta im interested in just dont known which one to get.
The 250m Pneumatic Air Light Stand or the 200cm Portable Lighting Stand.

Will the first stand be good enough for child photography like toddler sitting on the floor? As the lowest hight of it is 120cm. I am just setting up so not sure if the lowest height will be low enough for a subject sitting or laying down on the floor.

Or would i need a stand that goes lower than that?

The second one it says its more for flashguns, but would it hold a flash light? The lowest it goes is 67cm so maybe that would be better for subjects on the floor?

I just dont know lol

Minimum of 120cm seems very high, are you sure that's correct?

It says the stand is adjustable from 120cm-265cm.

I was thinking that 120cm might be too high. But not sure the other stand will hold the flash light.

Am sure it would be fine, but Garry will probably be along soon to confirm. I used to have a couple of Lencarta heads and they were pretty light.

Forget the portable stand, that's suitable for flashguns…The 2.5m air cushioned stand is the ideal choice…

+1 —my only additional feature is double leg bracing.

Thanks for all the replies.

But wouldn't the light throw shadows on the face and not expose it properly coming from above rather than from a direct light flash if u know what I mean? For instance when used at 120cm and the subject is laying on their tummy on the floor?

I never used studio lighting so don't know much yet.

I need 2 stands and didn't really want to spend more than what I need on a third one to use on those occasions.

A tool is just as good as the rage of possibilities it offers. You better have a
greater range and not always use it all than missing the extra reach!

Using the larger stand really means having it further away if someone is lying on the floor and you don't want panda eyes...... depends on modifiers and how soft you want the light to be before you decide if this is the way to go......

If your subject is sat in the garden, where's the light?

That's where we are lit from to look 'natural', a common mistake made by newbies in the studio is to place lights at the same height as the subject, when people do this, the results look a 'bit odd' but they can't put their finger on why. Of course this isn't helped by the proliferation of lighting diagrams, which are 2d and don't show the height of the lights.

120cm high with a 100 cm softbox puts the bottom of the softbox only 70cm from the floor if your child's head is 30cm from the floor, that's not high at all, you might want to raise it.

I don't do much 'studio' flash work in my home, but we have high ceilings (9ft) and I sit my subjects and I still wish I could get the light a bit higher, it's generally brushing the ceiling.

The 2.5m will be ok for your use and then use a reflector low down to fill in the shadows. 5 in 1 ones are useful and they are cheap, no reason to buy an expensive one as they can get battered over time (much like umbrellas). Truth be told a better solution would be to boom the light + modifier out away from the stand on a boom arm but that's again more money (c-stands are great for this). It's far more practical, not saying it's a must or not possible to get your results with the light + modifier direct on top of the stand but it gives you more options.

Just ordered the 2.5 pneumatic air damped stand. Thanks for the great advice and info !!!
