Hello there I am looking to buy hubby a 70-300 for nikon. Does anyone have any opinions on the
Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens for Nikon.

Nikon AF-S VR 70-300 f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED

Thank you

Hi

The tamron has some good reviews on the forums especially the vc one. If you go the Nikon route make sure you get the one with VR.

I haven't actually used these particular lenses myself, but my personal experience of Tamron is very mixed. I've used a 17-50 which I found to be quite a good lens. I also used their super zoom for a while, but ended up returning it due to it being pretty soft and having some focus issues. Tamron did have a 5 year warranty at the time though. If you can afford it I'd go for the Nikon. That particular lens its meant to be great bang for your buck. It gets recommended by a few high profile photographers.

I can't comment on Nikon fit, but I used to have one for Canon (two actually, I got it again after I sold the first).

Basically its a great lens, nice images, good range and the vc is really good. The only thing I found was the AF was not the quickest (or the worst by a long way).

I'm using the tablet at the mo so can't get the link, but one of my Flickr sets is devoted to it if you want to check a few hundred real life images.

I had the Nikon and was lent the Tamron to try.
After using on both D600 and D7100 I preferred the Tamron, so much so I sold the Nikon and bought the Tamron.
