hi all im new and just got my first dslr (canon EOS 1100d) with two lenses trouble is which lens is best for what one is a tamron af 70-300 and the other is a 18-55 thanks

The 70-300 is for things far away or for tight framing, eg portraits of head only...

The 18-55 is a wide lens, good for landscapes and general walk-around

18-55 is a general purpose 'kit lens' - for landscapes and 'loose' portraits, and just general purpose.

70-300 is a telephoto lens - for 'tight' portraits and situations where you are far away from your subject, wildlife for instance :)

Use them for whatever you want, the 18-55 will capture a wider piece of the scene and the 70-300 will capture a narrower section. There's no hard and fast rules that say you must use a certain lens for a certain purpose. You'll find with practice which choice suite your style for different situations. Have fun!

Most importantly get out there and take some pictures, remember your first 10,000 are your worst! ;-)
