Hi All,

Macro photography isn't something I've really had a proper go at but I fancy having a play.

I've always just used my sigma 17-70 as it can literally focus with something touching the lens so has been ok.

However I fancied having a 'proper' go at it, probably just flowers / bugs nothing too fancy.

Rather than splashing out for a macro lens, I procured a set of jessops extension tubes.

Currently I have the following lenses,

Tubes: 12 - 20 - 36 I believe

Sigma 17-70 2.8-4
Canon 70-200 2.8 L
Canon 50 1.8
samyang 8mm fisheye

As I understand it there would be little point using them with the sigma / samyang?
But what about the 50 and 70-200? Or should i potentially think about something else?

You can use them with your 50 1.8 and you'll get some really good close shots. You'll have to get very close to your subject though. I've used a Kenko set with my 50 1.8 and also with my Canon 100 2.8 L Macro, which is a great lens anyway. With the tubes the bugs are huge and you get the benefit of not losing too much light with them too. Not tried them on a 70-200, but they should work although what effect you'd get I don't know. Get the 50 and the tubes on and go play, see what you can do, but make sure you enjoy it.

I use mine on the Fifty, it's great. More recently, have also used them on a Tamron 17-55 f2.8. On both you end up practically on top of your subject to get focussed but still get some great results.

Could anyone tel me if the canon 35mm 80mm is a better lens than the original 18mm 55mm for the canon 400d and what the difference is please

Thanks for Jumping on my thread there, please could I suggest you start your own?

To the other chaps, thanks! The 50mm it is first then, i'll see how it looks :)

I might have a play with the 70-200 as well though and just see how it works!
