I have just been asked to take a team photograph for a football team in Glossop which is going to be used in the local press. The press photographer can't make it. I have the standard kits lens 18-55 and a 50mm 1.8 for a canon 350D.

Which lens will be best? I have only just got the 50mm thats why im asking.

Thanks for you advise.

It really depends how much space you have but if it's standard team photo on the pitch you could use either as you'll have plenty of room. Stop down to around f/8, focus on the front row and you'll be fine.

:agree: I'd probably go for the 18-55 for this job though as I feel that you really do have to move a lot further away than you may think with the 50mm imo.
I'd follow Pxl8's advice & ensure you step down to maintain the sharpness/DOF & try not to shoot at 18mm then you should be fine.

Good luck mate

If you stand a team on the 18 yard line in front of the goal and take the shot from the halfway line at about 80mm. You get a cracking shot of the team filling the goal. No use to you i know, so try the 18-55mm and stand the team about 10 yards from the goal and test and adjust from there. Good luck!

Thanks for that pxl8 and mike. Will post it later when I have finished.
