alright

so basicallyi have two parties ive been asked to shoot at one tonite and the other on the weekend. luckily the one on the weekend is more important so i have abit more time to prepare etc, the one today is very last minute.

basically i have 2 lens's i could potentially use but i not sure which one.

i have a canon 35-135mm f4-5.6 usm which is relatively wide but not incredibally bearing i will be using a flash from a sync lead.

my other option in the kit lens that came with my 400d, this tends to be very soft as soon as the light goes.

the party im doing tonite is a new rave them so lots of neon etc and people my age going mental listing to awful music haha!! they asked me to get photos of people there and whats going on etc so i thought maybe the kit lens will be ok? even though its incredible soft when compared to the 35-135mm which is very sharp.

any ones opinions would be greatly appreciated and anyone who shoots live bands etc which would you recomnend as its going to be kind of the same thing!

many thanks

Is your kit lens the 18-55mm? What's the venue?

Use both? Not at the same time though, that would just be silly.

yeah i thought about that but it might be quite awkward because i would have to leave my bag in the car so i would have to keep going in and out i could see how big my pockets are :s haha

cheers though

Combat trousers are your friend when it comes to carrying a spare lens. Is your 35-135 still sharp at 35mm when you're shooting wide open?

when compared to the kit lens incredibly sharp it appears sharp right through here is a sample shot. f4 at 35mm

get yourself the 50mm f1.8 so at least you'll have a fighting chance in low light...

I'd be tempted to do this...

Although the 35-135 does look sharp. But parties will potentially be horribly low light.

im not to worried about the low light as i will be using my flash on a sync cord and there will be lots of lazers etc i think. ive adjusted the sharpness in the user defined settings and tested it out with the kit lens and it seems to have done the job, not quite as sharp as the 35-135 but not far off.

think i have it covered now thanks :-)

just though i would show some photos from the nite

cheers for the help people
