which lens next?

I'm starting to think about getting my next lens.

My longest lens at the moment is the 70-200 f2.8 ex which I use with the 1.4x tc.

Even with the tc fitted, it's a little on the short side for wildlife stuff, so I'm thinking

300 f4 L or the 400 f5.6 L might be the way to go.

Any one got either of these lenses or know if they too could be used with the sigma 1.4x to increase them even further?

I think your first purchase should be the 2XTC it doesn't perform badly at all with the 70-200 2.8L and will be the same effective aperture as the 400mm 5.6 and only a stop slower than the 300 f4. Decide where you go from there?

CT, i have the 70-200 f2.8 ex.....thats a sigma

although the lens is sharp under most circumstances i've encountered, it does start to look a little soft with the 1.4x wide open at the 280.


AFAIK the 2.0x is much softer than the 1.4x

Ah sorry mate we're at cross purposes then. The 2XTC does perform better with the Canon version than we've any right to expect it to. :shrug:
