I recently purchased a Canon 400d and want to take wildlife photo's in the garden. I am thinking of buying a secondhand Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro or a 75-300 f/4-5.6 USM canon lens

Which should I buy?

Thanks

Terry

I have the sigma and it's a great lens for the money.

Here's one I took with it.

Your photo's are great. Just the sort of thing I want to be able to do. What do you mean when you say the image can be a bit soft and is it reflected in either your 2 photo's?

Heres a couple i took at under 240mm or there abouts you can see there quite sharp. you can see the difference.

Go for one of these instead Sigma 100-300 F4 EX DG or Canon 70-200 F2.8 L IS. Might sell my Sigma 100-300 F4 EX DG for £500 mint condition.

Lovely punk Robin shots Rich!

If I had to make do with one lens for all wildlife shots, it would probably be the Canon 100-400L. It's not the fastest lens but is very usable in good light, with the IS being a real boon.

Not the cheapest lens I know, but it's a really useful zoom range.
