Yes
im looking for a new lens with more zoom than just the standered lens that came with my canon 1000D,but dont know what to look for.im new to all this as you can tell from the lack of jargon, but if anybody could point me in the right direction i would be grateful, and maybe what i can expect to pay for it.many thanks:)

What's your budget? Some idea of what you want to spend would help!
New or second hand? What will you be shooting?

55-250mm IS is a good start. £150/£170 new, £125 ish S/H.
For around double that price £400 ish a S/H 70-200mm L F4 is a VERY good lens!

thanks all for the reply.dont actually know what i will be shooting but the one i got with the camera 18-55mm just seems like the subject is too far away like at a wildlife park the animals looked distant.my budget is £150 - £200 second hand or new

Canon 55-250mm IS sounds like what you need and in your price range too

Its actually a very good lens, bought mine from a friend cheap as a stop gap and still using it. Niot found anything i prefer without spending a fair old whack, so haven't bothered (yet)

Then go for the 55-250mm IS F4:5.6. It is far better than the price dictates. I have one and love it! The IS (image stabilisation) works just great and the IQ is spot on! You should have enough to get a hood for it too!

thanks for the advice.the 55-250mm sounds good and in price bracket.thanks again.:)

Just another vote for the 55-250 IS lens, for the price it's a very good lens and will certainly fall in your price budget - if your happy to buy 2nd hand, keep an eye open in the classifieds here as they do pop up.

The other lens to look for, money dependant is the Canon 70-300 IS (around the £300 + s/h), if you got to a stage of being able to afford this or a 70-200 F4, you would have little trouble selling the 55-250 IS on,

my vote goes to 55-250mm lens.
but...remember that u will miss wide angle shots.

I don't know why, I use mine for lanscape shots! It 'sqeezes' the picture forward and make a very pleasing shot.
He does have the kit lens for 'wide shots' though!
