Yes
hi, i'm thinking of buying some flash heads and was wondering if the 200w lencarta smart flash ststem would be enough for my needs.
I want it to photograph family portraits so im guessing max 6 people, or do i need to upgrde to the 300w elite pro?

No - I'd have said the 200w Smart flashes would be fine. The ElitePros have some advantages in terms of handling.

I'm looking at the same decision at you and I think the variable power modelling lamp and quicker recycle times are the big differences.
You need to decide if those are important to warrant the extra cash.
Saying that, I still can't decide myself!

I don't find the variable lamp that useful, although sometimes it's good to turn it down when fitting a snoot - with another flash you'd have to simply switch off the modelling lamp to avoid melting!

phil : thanks for that I was hoping the 200w would be powerful enough.

rico: regarding recycling times, I thought they both recyled in approx 1sec at full power (thats a lot quicker then my current flash gun set up)

Ah yes sorry I meant at lower powers the EP300 fire more than the smartflashes.

200Ws is enough, though you'd probably want a biggish softbox. Lencarta's Profold 70x100 is a very versatile weapon, something like that.

BTW, Lencarta's ElitePro modelling lamps are nowhere near proportional - they only turn down one stop from max.

hoppy : cheers for response, I had been checking the softboxes out, I was considering either the 85mm oct or 70x100 or 60x90 then a brolly for the 2nd light
