Hi there

I am back on this forum after while off...due to pc problems.

Anyway i need to upgrade my 3year"gateway laptop" (:D no laughing please) to a new faster machine.

From reading various articles and reviews , it seems that alot of photographers are choosing the apple. All i need the laptop for is primarily photo editing/organising/display,downloading music and browsing the internet. Budget wise...that depends on the response to this article. The apple i have seen is the basic model that comes in around £770. I was wandering if there any other good cheaper alternatives ? Or is the apple that good that it warrants spending all that extra money on. (some other brands seem to have higher specs with larger monitor sizes )

Many thanks
Steve

Wow, over 8 hours and this hasn't turned into a PC/Apple war!!!

I've been using OS X for quite a while, currently I've got the older version of the budget MacBook and it's great. Looking at PC laptops with 13" screens you'd struggle to get anything the same spec/build quality for much under £700. I like the 13" screen size for portability, I find the 15" laptops a bit too bulky/heavy for carrying around.

If you want to look for a cheaper MacBook it is always worth looking at the Apple refurb store, as the laptops still come with a full warranty.

If you haven't used a Mac before try and get to an Apple store and book an appointment to speak to someone about testing one and bring some of your images on a memory card to see how you get on with it.

I guess this subject has been done before.

Thanks for the advice and i will check out the Apple refurb store

Cheers
