which is the better option photoshop or lightroom ?

To do what exactly? Do you need the power and subtly of Photoshop? Raw conversion - organisation - Cataloguing? Lightroom is the answer.

Lightroom is for editing your RAWs. Quick to batch andgreat for managing your files
Photoshop is a pixel based processor so you can edit sections of your image much more accurately

Gimp is a very poor substitute - but is free.. There are other RAW converters and it is probably personal preference in what you want to use.

Both photoshop and lightroom are a must for me.

Lightroom for cataloging and quick basic edits and photoshop for everything else.

Also consider On-One's Perfect suite if you don't need image cataloging.

That settles that then, been looking at the subscription offer for Digital Camera and it includes tutorials for lightroom, was going to put a similar question in a thread, but will go with this one now. I have Photoshop Elements 7.0, but never really got the hang of it.

Also look for Anthony Morganti on Youtube - he does a good job explaining how & why to use stuff, although I'd not necessarily follow his processing methods.

I find that Lightroom covers everything I would need for my editing and it feels pretty easy to work with from the off. Anything advanced then I use Photoshop but I prefer Lightroom all round. You can download a 30 day trial from Adobe to see how you get on with it :)

Before you move to PS ……. your could try PSE 10, 11 or 12 …… only £50 for full version, to see if you can get on with it

LR now seems an essential for many photographers

Lightroom missing a few bits of functionality for me, although I was impressed with the way it handles the whole workflow without much bloating. A very good place to start.

Typically I use Bridge for browsing and PS for editing.

I use both - Lightroom for enhancing my RAW images and then Photoshop if I want to do things like clone bits out...

I do everything in LR although I do have CS3 but rarely use it.

I considered the CC/LR photographer offer but I don't like being tied to a subscription price that is out of my control. I am also still using a 32 bit machine.
My concern would be that they will push the price up after the year's offer and that I would also need to upgrade my PC to keep the subscription going.

I decided that LR is more than adequate for what I need and is cheap at about £100 initially and around £60 upgrade. I just hope that they keep LR as a stand alone product and not change it to subscription only too.

LR for me. Very rarely need PS and even then, I only use Elements.

Really depends what you shoot.

What do you mean by that?, I do shoot a lot of macro especially flowers, I like to try and use what I have taken in camera rather than editing, I may do a bit of exposure correction using Nikon view nx, and then its landscapes and street scenes, typical holiday shots really. I shoot in raw and med quality JPEG almost always, if I edit raw shots, I then delete the matching JPEG and create another with the corrections applied.

I used LR3 and LR4 exclusively whilst i had them. I upgraded to LR5 but did so as part of the creative cloud - finding that I'm using them in tandem and its giving me a new challenge (learning how to use photoshop!)
