It's about time they made up their mind to what they want to be called ....
One need this morning I have heard of a number of coalition attacks on the following:
Islamic State
ISIS
ISIL
IS known as ISIS
ISIS known as IS
All I want to know is which is it...?![]()
If you really want to refer to them by name I suggest Da'ish (spelling varies) since that is what Arabic speakers call them - which you can check on TV. Although it comes from an acronym it is said to be pejorative (I am guessing there is some double meaning) and best of all "...the jihadist group objects to the term and has advised against its usage" according to the BBC:

I have never in my life thought this of anyone before who wasn't in a secure unit, but that man is pure evil.
Quite.
I think it's worth pointing out though, that I in no way associate him with the overwhelming majority of muslims.
The few muslims I meet think much the same about him as I do.
I have wondered if it may be possible to organise a massive march(s) protesting against the actions of ISIL, just as we did for the anti war demonstraions more than a decade ago.
It would be interesting to see the demographic of people who marched, and which segments of the comminity were conspicuous by their absence.
I agree with you, because I also know a few Muslims, and they detest the actions of these barbaric animals.
However, I also suspect that in some Muslim communities (from a particular background), their would not be any enthusiasm for demonstrating against the actions of ISIL.

But who would you be demonstrating to….and where?
Anti war marches generally take place around seats of government (or their satellite establishments), and are carried out to protest against that governments involvement in said conflict, or at least that’s how I view it.
Our government? Like them or loathe them, they’ve already shown how much they like IS – by bombing them.
I always thought the aim of protesting was to try to bring about change, by demonstrating to those who can bring that change about.
At any rate, please don’t rally outside the Iraqi Embassy in Queen’s Gate. I have to go there 2-3 times a week, and you’ll make it look untidy![]()
I was thinking of marches in centres of major cities, with people clearly demonstrating against ISIL. It may seem futile, but it may show the people who is actually prepared to put their head above the parapet and demonstrate.
If it was simply white/British people, then that would bring into question where the loyalties of the British Muslim community lay.
I must admit that the last place I would think of demonstrating outside is the Iraqi embassy (or for that matter the Syrian embassy). I do however think that the Gulf states - Saudi, UAE. Qatar etc need a shake up, because that is where most of the funding for ISIL originates.

Apart from an exercise in finding out who's against ISIL/ISIS or whatever they want to call themselves this week, it would achieve nothing. It might well have the opposite effect, attracting those who don't like any race and start a mass punch up. While I always looked forward to a good bundle when I was a Police Officers, really, they do have other things to do.
Anyway, Viv's right, they really do not care what we think, they only have one aim in life, and it's not confined to the Levant. Turkey is reasonably safe, so long as you are the other end of the Country from Syria, and so is Cyprus, too many vested interests there, who wouldn't want it to be attacked, there's so much spying going on in the land of my birth, it glows in the dark!

I can't help but think that this isnt really about faith, but about power.
ISIS is an acronym....not a given name. Rather different to the Egyptian goddess of light and magic.
No s*** Sherlock.![]()
Isis is a local transport company. They have lorries with a huge Isis logo on the side.No s*** Sherlock.![]()
ISIS is an acronym....not a given name. Rather different to the Egyptian goddess of light and magic.
except that its spelt and pronounced exactly the same , of course I and everyone else know that they didn't actually intend it to be a reference to the goddess who determines who shall sit on the throne... hence the point that its ironic that they picked an acronym that is spelt and sounds like a pagan goddess :banghead: kinnel its hard work in here
Your point would be valid if only you weren't discussing two different things.
Ooh for f***'s good sake, its ironic because they are two different things that are spelt and pronounced the same (in English).. - seriously I know you are only arguing because you like the sound of your own voice but you're just making yourself look stupid now.
That's what coincidence means, and its the unintended coincidence which is ironic .... dear god

Well heavens don't you wind easily![]()
