Is it "Leading line" or a "Lead in line" or a "Lead-in Line"?

I would say Leading Lines.

If you are referring to the compositional : description, 'leadin line' (lead in or lead-in also appropriate)

As I perceive it ~ it describes a line or pattern that 'leads' the gaze/eye into a scene......but leading does not seem quite right!

If you look in the Oxford dictionary it is lead-in. "an introduction or preamble which allows one to move smoothly on to the next part of something."

Leading means something different - basically to be in front, lead.

If its the one showing you where to look then it's leading you in, and hence would be a lead-in line

If its the one in front of other lines then its the leading line, which has no photographic context really so can be ignored as a compositional element

Amazing how something as simple as this can lead to an argument!

But it is quite clear to me that a lead-in line leads the eye into the landscape. It is one way of trying to give the picture a three-dimensional feel. It's not clear to me that it is the only way to compose a landscape, though. Many work well in a 2-dimensional sense without a lead-in line.

I "edit" a picture.
You "mess around with" a picture.
He, she or it "ruins" a picture.
