Two pictures taken with two different camera/lens combinations. Obviously, one is taken in flat overcast spring light, and the other taken in summer sunshine.

Leaving these two issues aside, which do you consider to be the sharper?? This is simply a lens comparison.

The second looks sharper but the increased contrast plays a factor here. The second show also shows signs of post sharpening that the first doesn't so I don't think it's a fair test really...

It would be impossible to do the comparison in any other way - I no longer own the lens/camera combo used for the first shot.

I agree, there was an in camera sharpening algorithm at work in the second.

Doug, you should know better.

You might as well ask "which is sharper mount everest or my bum ?". The responses would probably be as useful, and I'd guess a lot funnier.

Different times of year, let alone time of day. Different lighting.
No EXIF in the 1st one
No knowledge of if the've been post processed, cropped, sharp'd etc...

Ok, then I would say the second is the sharper image but that I wouldn't conclude it's also the sharper lens based on the information available.

Thanks, I'm not trying to prove which is the better lens - indeed, there really is no comparison. I'm merely trying to get an objective opinion of the sharpness of the second image.

2nd one seems sharper, but could of been a faster shutter speed....

I know I should know better, but I'm NOT trying to compare like with like. I'm not attempting to compare camera with camera, or lens with lens, merely asking for a subjective opinion on which image you consider to be the sharper.

This is NOT an equipment test, merely a simple question... which image is sharper, and I am not making any attempt to direct any decision between one or the other.

They are both crops, the first by about 10% reduced, the second by around 100%, enlarged. They were both sharpened in camera. The first was shot at 560mm, and reduced by 10% or so, and the second was shot at 300mm, and digitally enlarged by cropping.
