Beginner which is best

Having read this whole thread, which lens did you end up buying?
 
I'm more than happy with the Nikon 1.8 but out of curiosity and I'm not asking to be funny in any way but what would paying another £400-500 get me with art lens? With a good copy of course

There's a very measurable difference, but only you can decide if that has a value to you,

One of the amazing things for me is the flare resistance, creating crisp images that include the sun shining directly into the lens is gobsmacking. But on other occasions I like the complete wipe out of contrast from lesser lenses too (a romantic 'flake advert' look). It's great to have a choice though.
 
Yes certainly the flare is a good thing though how often that would be needed is another thing, for yourself that maybe important for others less so, for me the Nikon does a grand job and is very underpriced, I don't think the art is worth the extra, different strokes for different folks,the bokeh is pretty poor on the art lens, I also thought the build quality not that great for the price either.
