Hi all,

Question

I am an amateur photographer and I really want to explore the, what looks really complex, world of HDR. i have an idea of what to do I just would appreciate a view on which software is best to use? I run a windows PC with Lightroom if that makes any difference, I am happy to pay but would appreciate your recommendations also any advice or pitfalls that you think would be relevant.

For me Photomatix

+1 for Photmatix and you can also trial a free version to see how it suits you, does show the watermark though, but at least you get to try it.

I've tried CS5, Nik HDR Pro and also Photomatix and find that suits me.

I've had a go with Photomatix trial and seems to work well but next month I will be buying Lightroom and I've breifly read that 4.1 does HDR but not sure.

If it dose then they hide it well ! I think that functionality does not exist but I would happily be proved wrong !!

HDR pro from nik products is a very good and easy to use program, can be used with all photoshop and light room

I was in same conundrum few months back. After lots of research and readings reviews (yes I am a geek :) ) I went for Photomatix. Ive had no regrets at all. Great software. Easy to use and you can get some great results :))))

+1 for Photomatix.

I use Nike HDR efex. I find its interface far more intuitive and the end result more pleasing.
I find photomatix hard to work with and sometimes the results it offers quite harsh and unrealistic (not mine but others I have seen)

...Why don't you start with a pre-set and go from there?

Maybe I'm confusing matters.
Even on the default preset I find using the sliders unintuitive and I think others do to which is why you see some lary results :D they can't all be blamed on presets surely
