Im after a flash for my nikon d90. I mainly shoot people, landscapes and any shots that I think may look cool and a bit different.

Im still a beginner so dont want to bust a wedge on one, but any advice on a reasonably priced flash would be fab.

Thanks guys!

I had an SB600 when I was a Nikon man and found it ideal for what I wanted.

If they're a bit too much out your price range - why not see how you get on for starters with a Jessops / generic type one ?

Anth.

FITP (Graham, one of out advertisers) sells a flash for about £55 that works with Nikons giving proper TTL flash. The cheapest Nikon flash is the SB400 which is about £120. The next one and the first one that is actually better the the FITP one is the SB600 which is about £200 then you have the SB900

There's always the Nissin Di622, they seem to get reasonable reviews, although I'm not sure if they can do off camera stuff like the SB600 (pretty sure it does though).

I'll certainly vouch for the SB600 too, I'm loathed t get rid of mine even though I've since picked up an SB800.

save up for a sb600. they're spot on on-camera, well built etcetc, and you can use it wirelessly off camera with nothing else, using the built in flash in your d90 as a commander to tell it what to do - it does all the exposure stuff perfectly too even when off camera, works great.

No only the SB600,800 & 900 for CLS. You could use radio triggers etc but then you don't get the benefit of TTL flash metering.

Wasn't sure, but I saw this

"One of the special features of the Di622 is the ability to work off-cam via wireless optical mode. The Di622 can be triggered either by optical means (a primary flash burst) such as a pop-up flash or another flash gun; or via infra-red signal coming from a flash commander/master."

on here (albeit the Canon version)... http://reviews.davidleetong.com/?p=1150

To be honest though, I think the SB600 is the way to go for full compatibility and ttl metering

Yes you can use it as an optical slave, but you can get a little device for under a tenner that will turn any flash into an optical slave. The big advantage of the SB600-900 is that the flash is metered so you can get accurate flash off camera. Very handy and works fantastically with the hand held soft boxes.

Another vote for the sb600! Great piece of kit :D

Get yourself an sb600 then you can go CLS with your D90 or if you can find a 2nd hand sb800 its about the same price but much better, I got a 2nd hand sb800 yesterday from Jacobs digital for £175

Thanks for all your responses guys!!! I'll be scouring around to find a sb600!
