Which Filter

I have made my mind up to buy a Nikon 24-70 to match with my D700, question is, what is the best filter to use with it?

I dont like the idea of spending a load of money on this lens, to use a filter that will affect the awesome optics it has.

Any suggestions? oh and anyone know of a better price than £1159 inc p&p at Simply Electronics?
