Well maybe you didn't travel in boats where you couldn't use your feet for shots of things as you go by, or not interested in wildlife or really isolating a subject etc etc etc...

As for traveling light I've already said "use a digital compact with a nice zoom" ..

A lot of places in Greece render footzooming impossible - when your back's against a building or cliff and the sea's a foot or 2 in front of you, there's nowhere to go! Lugging a load of weight is extremely sapping of energy in the heat over there and you need to carry water if you'll be straying far from civilisation (although you can pick up smallish bottles pretty much anywhere).

Personally, on a backpacking trip over there, I would take a decent compact rather than an SLR, if only to reduce the load. [heresy]TBH, I would take just the digital and a few cards - space is at a premium and even 35mm cans take up room in the bag where an extra pair of kex/socks could be put to better use![/heresy] Not sure how easy film is to find over there these days - not looked for it for a few years and even back then it tended to be faded boxes on the shelves of non AC shacks, so load your pockets (maybe a very cheap cagoule or similar with big pockets and leave it at your start/finish point rather than lug it all over the place) with it if you plan on taking many film shots.

Wow I learnt a lot from your advice, you really did well with just a 50mm and a FG, back packing.........well done. And I think Paul knows the difference between a slightly wider lens compared to 50mm.

I didn't give advice, I posted about my experience relevant to the original question. You seem to be side-tracking this thread in an attempt to draw me into an argument for reasons of your own that I won't pretend to understand. I refuse to be goaded by someone who only seems to look for the opportunity to be contentious so I'm placing you on ignore.
