The TC was originally sold with the caps, and has now been supplied to you without the caps. I would have expected caps. It's not like it is something extra, an accessory (like a filter) but something supplied from new.

I assume the item was not listed as new, so you cannot assume that what was with the item is still with it!
The seller fulfilled his part of the transaction, so anything other than a positive would be petty in my eyes.

Assumption is the mother of all f-ups. Caps weren't mentioned or pictured, you didn't ask specifically about a part of the item that wasn't advertised or pictured, therefore your assumption has led to your disappointment. Give the bloke the positive feedback he is due.

But the item was also not listed as incomplete - which in my opinion it is.

OP, there is a fourth option. If you don't want to leave positive feedback but don't feel the transaction warrants negative or neutral simply don't leave any.

Personally I think your making a mountain out of a molehill, if I buy a second hand car I don't expect a full tank of petrol to be included unless the advert says so. You got what you bought, the important thing is are you happy with the lens, if not return it saying it's not complete without lens caps and buy brand new out of a camera shop.

Trigs, if you sold a lens and somebody left you neutral as it didn't have a filter on, would you be happy?

I know it's not the same to people here, but not everyone will bother keep lens caps etc on it, it probably never strikes some people as important.

Annoying, maybe, but they've not done anything wrong.

I know & understand what your saying... When I have listed items -esp camera gear it always states exactley what your getting, the condition and pictures of absolute EVERYTHING thats included (I use all 12 pictures)...

The item was listed as "used" - which I already knew about... As regards to the bold - he included the leather case - which I never knew it came with one but he included that so why not the caps ...

Certainly doesn't warrant negative - would either be neutral or none what so ever...

He doesn't warrant a neutral because you expected something that wasn't pictured or mentioned in the listing.

Give the guy a break. It might actually help if you dropped him a freindly message saying that you were surprised that the lens caps weren't included.

As an experienced ebay user you should be used to the wildly varying standards of descriptions on listings - the sellers who put a detailed description (like yourself) seem to be in a minority. Maybe because they hope to get away with leaving stuff out; more likely that they can't be bothered taking the time to put a few words together.
I've learned the hard way in the past - you got off lightly and got a good result. Put this one down to experience and always remember to ask if something isn't mentioned.
