Which eye do you look through the viewfinder with?

Right handed but left eye. I have gone from an xxxD to an xxD and now have a 7D , and have never had a problem with my thumb (or make up, come to that. Not all us girlies are, we'll, girly!).
 
Right only here. Don't think I've ever tried using left either.
 
Right eye always...

Unless i turn the camera to shoot in portrait then who the hell knows?!

I even confuse myself :D

Never knew I had a dominant right eye, but use it for shooting the nikons anyway, seems I've been right using right and lucky I left the left ;)
And the smilies just wrong :lol:
 
I actually had to run upstairs and grab my camera to answer this! Found some chocolate on the way down so it's all good.

Left eye (and squashed nose), not sure why but it feels very strange using my right eye. Totally agree about the make-up on the LCD, that's a bit of a pain!
 
Left handed, left eye dominant, left ear on the phone, right eye in the viewfinder.

I've tried with my left eye, but i can just 'see' compositions better with my right eye, my brain seems to just work it out quicker. weird.
 
Right handed and thankfully right eye dominant as my nose would get in the way!!

We were neck-a-necking for quite a while today, now the righties are just eeking ahead. I've got to admit I thought there'd be more righties than there are but it seems pretty evenly distributed. I'm quite surprised more people don't have trouble with the nose/thumb clash bit maybe it's just us with a big conk?
 
I'm right handed, left eye dominant and use a knife & fork left handed so left eye for me. :eek: Never noticed any nose related problems...

Same for me, left eyed, left handed and wear glasses and in winter, side of the rugby pitch, face at the sceen nose breathing warm air all over the lock button causes condensation :thumbsdown:

Wow! Exactly same here! Although now I (can) only use my left eye through the view finder.
 
I'm right handed but use my left eye. I don't even know why either, it just seems right. I don't think I've ever tried with my right eye to be honest ahahh, it will probably feel too strange now :p

Lol, they tried that with me, but my mum went to the school and kicked off.... Never been so embarrassed
 
Depends on what I'm shooting, I prefer the right though...


Just realised another reason to love the 60D... No issues with prints on the LCD as I keep it closed while shooting! :lol:
 
I use my right eye for everything, my left eye has been weak since I was a kid and 40 odd years later, and after an eye test last week, it's about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. I often keep my left eye open while shooting as it helps with tracking for me, albeit as a blob.
 
Left eye, right-handed.

Maybe we should have a poll to see if nose size or thumb size is an issue. Nothing personal :)
 
Yes but do we measure length of nose? Distance it sticks out from face? Thickness of thumb? :D
 
Either one. Doesn't make any difference, I keep both eyes open anyway. I shoot rifles, handguns and shotguns the same way.
 
Right eye, it feels unusual now for me to use my left. (Right handed FYI)
 
Right eye but I have a lazy left eye so wouldn't be able to focus on anything with that one
 
Right eye for the view finder, and then left eye open if I'm watching for incoming cars further back round the track.

If you want to check which eye is dominant try this:

With both eyes open hold a finger at arms length
Align the finger with a far off object, a tree, lampost etc
Now shut your left eye and see what happens to the image.
Now swap eyes so your right eye is closed, the left open.
With your dominant eye the finger will still be aligned with the object
With your non-dominant eye the object will appear to shift to one side.

It is possible to be right handed but left eye dominant and vice versa.

I've just done this now and this explains why I shoot with my left eye. I'm right handed by the way. That's cool, since day one it felt right that I feel comfortable shooting with my left eye.

Same ahahh, and now I'm thinking if that's why I'm still not so good at snooker after playing for quite a while... I play right handed (because I am right handed) but my left eye is more dominant
 
I'm left-handed and left-eye dominant so that's the eye I use.

Photographically speaking, the biggest advance for me was the motor drive Before I got my first motor-driven camera (Nikkormat EL, bought when it was new on the market and I've still got it!) I was constantly moving the camera away from my face to use the film advance lever without poking my right eye out.

There used to be a SLR - I think it might have been an Alpa - which worked the other way round, film cassette loaded in the right hand side and advance lever on the left. But I'm not sure I'd ever have got on with that either.
 
i use my left eye, strange though as my left eye is actually weaker in vision than my right eye.

Just feels more comfortable using my left, i am also right handed
 
Left-footed, left-handed, left-eyed.

Right-handed people ask why I eat 'right-handed' - but I don't swap my fork to the other hand when I put down the knife - they do ;)

Is that just natural or do you conciously think "I better swap to my left eye"?
 
I did use the right eye but having been told recently told that that eye has a cataract which needs surgery, I've started to use the left with some improvement in my photos that I'm happy with.

Right eye for landscape, left for portrait. I usually rotate it to the right for portrait.

I guess you could call me eyembidextrous :gag:
