Well this is strange!

I've just had my parents on the go with the right eyed/left eyed test - my dad is right eyed (as are 80% of the population, fitting with this polls results) but my mum is left eyed - so I must have inherited it from her.

It goes another step towards explaining why we are both nutters.

I feel so weird - I honestly don't know and there's no camera around to check. Must just be a natural instinct whichever I use.

Will find out later!

About 5 minutes after my 1st post I was wondering if I was right so picked up my camera to double check

I had to get the camera to check, right handed, left eye. Dominant left eye.

Right handed though am ambidextrous, right eye.

Left eye open

The ambidextrousness came in useful for tennis, if I couldn't reach a running backhand, I could swap to the left for a bit of extra reach becoming a forehand return.
End of usless info.

right handed left eyed. CLose the right eye while the camera is up at my face.

That test posted apparently proved that my right is the dominant eye, but I can't see straight or really focus on anything if I shut my left

When I shoot guns I have to hold it "left-handed" they told me, and when looking down the viewfinder I have to use my left or I can't see anything.

I'm right handed.

I don't use/need glasses and according to all the eye tests I've ever had, I have better than average (20/15) vision.

Right-handed, left eye - try using a Leica with your right eye...feels like you're holding it at arm's length out to the right of you...

What did they say if your right handed and left eyed?

The easiest solution is simply to shut your left eye - removing it's dominance. That's what most right -handed left -eyed clay shooters do.

You could learn to shoot from the left shoulder in which case you could keep both eyes open. It's said to be easier than you might think, but I'd need some convincing. You can actually buy left handed shotguns.

The 3rd solution is to have the stock of the shotgun bent into an 'S' shape so that it aligns under your left eye while still mounted on your right shoulder. To do this they put the gun butt in a jig and stress it to shape over several days. Unfortunately they have a tendency to creep back to some degree and require constant re-adjustment. The elegant solution is to have the stock manufactured to the 'S' shape to your partcular requirements/ measurements. Expensive!

I used to shoot with a guy who had centre vision (Neither eye dominant) and shot right-handed. He had his gun stock bent so that the top rib aligned exactly between his eyes. He used to get ribbed mercilessly about his orthopaedic gun. :D

You have dominance for handedness, feet, ears, eyes, and even which side of your mouth you chew on, and which nostril you breathe out of more. For most peopel they should all be on the same side, but up to about 20% have mixed dominance.

Most of the right handed/eyed people here would, if they paid attention, probably notice they favour their right ear, foot and for chewing.

I'm quite mixed though, right handed, left eyed (though that may be due to eye conditions), right eared, left footed, and either for chewing.

Doesn't breathing alternate between nostrils every 4 hours or so? Thats why when you have a cold you'll get better for a few hours because one half of your nose isn't blocked, then you'll block back up again because it switches.

May be ball-hocks.

Yes but you'll still favour one, I forget how they test it now - I think it's only like when playing sports it actually is noticeable.

Lol that is really weird I just tried putting a finger in front of each nostril and it appears at the moment I am breathing entirely (or almost so) out of my right nostril only.

Will check back in a few hours.... :bonk:

right handed right footied, right eared I think, chew on the right mostly, left eyed but if I am going to stand to the side I would make the left side of my body face to the front.

I'm right handed and view through left eye.

I started out viewing through right eye, but changed when I realised I could jam the camera into my left shoulder for extra stability, and now it's second nature

Both at the same time... the joys of a waist-level finder. At least on the Mamiya anyway :p

Left handed, left eye and i close my right eye.

Right eye, right hand. Same as when I shoot! I keep my left eye open for both too.
