Hello again ... lot's about this in the other place.
I've decided on the Metz 50 AF-1 for Olympus/Panasonic ... when funds permit. Options were the Metz 44 AF-1 and the equivalent sized offerings from O & P.
The Metz 50 offers a wireless slave mode that may be useful in future (my G3 doesn't have that option, but Olympus MFT bodies do) and it has more power than the Metz 44. Then it was down to price!
An off-camera cord is on the list as well ... think I've found one that will do the job (eBay item 270824784146).
