I have a Canon 450d and find the 18-55 fairly limited (i was used to a super zoom digi cam).

I am a uber n00b at this and apologies in advance for using wrong wordings.

The lens that came with the camera, 18-55 is good (for my standards) but i would prefer something with a longer range that i can keep on the camera most of the time. I was thinking of maybe a 18-200 or 18-250.

I don't want to keep changing lens (i am super slow) and liked being able to zoom in and out.

Is there a lens for a n00b eg, great picture quality, long range, but still can keep a low erm number like 18 (i liked that i can zoom out as well to get a larger area) ? Preferably with vibration support too.

Budget wise, maybe nothing more than 300-400 ?

I was also thinking of a wide angle lenses to cover land scape as well, maybe a 10-20 ? but this will have to come later when budget permits.

Thanks guys !

I can recommend the Tamron 18-250mm super zoom. With any superzoom you won't get the best performance at any given range but the Tamron certainly delivers great all-round performance.

Prices are currently £300, maybe a bit less if you shop around.

Canon have just introduced a 18-200mm into there collection, there's also a Tamron 18-250mm and a Sigma 18-200mm, or if your on a tight budget you could go for a Sigma 70-300mm APO which you could probably pick up for about £130 now, combined with your 18-55 this will give quite a good combination, take a look at some reviews of the lenses I've mentioned

Unfortunately your budget may be a bit short for an IS lens of that sort of zoom (The Canon 18-200 IS is about £550). I've had the Tamron 18-250 (Under £300) for about a year and can certainly recommend it, although I use it on a Sony which has in camera image stabilization. Might be worth pushing the budget a little for the Canon 18-200?

EDIT: Must type faster!

Hello
I tend to use the Sigma 18 - 200mm as an everyday lens,
Jayne
