Yes
I've had a xxxx@lineone.net email address for a long time but am fed up with the spam & also the hurdles every time I try & get the settings sorted for IPhones, Laptops, Ipads. It seemed to become Tiscali, then TalkTalk & Googling makes me feel many others have the same frustrations.

I have an unused Gmail address & an unused Hotmail address but don't want to 'jump out of the frying pan into the fire' so which shall I go with. Out the two I lean towards the Gmail but would like opinions.

I know it will be a 'pain in the rrr's' notifying people but I reckon I will have to do it one day & I do have time on my hands.

:help: :help: :help:

Gmail. I don't get any spam on my Gmail account but get loads on my hot mail and yahoo one.

That's very subjective though, it'll vary hugely depending on the sort of thing you enter your addresses into.

I get a fair bit of junk on my hotmail but nothing I haven't signed up for.

But otherwise its swings and roundabouts.

I would agree with gmail as first choice, having said that, I don't get much spam into my live.com inbox either. They both seem to have very efficient filters.

Many thanks Kev, Neil, Dave & Yvonne - done I'll go with my Gmail one

I am now committed as I've just emailed friends & family with new details of the Gmail one BUT that's the easy bit as I have dozens & dozens of other places to advise of new address. Oh yes including TP

 Uh oh, heres where we dont see John for weeks

Hi Yvonne

Can't keep me away - even when I don't post much I do read a lot

Just counted how many places I have the lineone address & it's around 100 :gag:

I got fed up with the email merry-go-round years ago & registered my own domain name. It's not free but I'll never have to change it again

I doubt using gmail is going to require a change any time in the foreseeable future ;).

I've got a LineOne email address. Keep it for anything banking, payments etc and never had any problems with spam considering it's around 15 years old now.

Nice to know that there are other LineOne'rs out there. We should form a club in memory of a once brilliant ISP :'(

Yes a thought but when I ran my business, a few years ago, my hosting company went down for several weeks & when 90% of all my enquiries were from my web site it was not good. When they sorted themselves out it required a considerable amount of work, by my web design company, as somehow corruption had occurred. So I feel this way isn't always perfect

I have a feeling it may be something to do with an annual payment I used to make for spam filtering but can't see they've taken it for some time.

That aside I am just fed up with trying to configure devices & so far this year two mobiles, laptops four times & recently an Ipad. The Hotmail & Gmail addresses were a breeze but lineone not so. But my brain is a bit mushed up so not so sharp as it used to be. I also find delays with lineone stuff & lower size email possible unless that has changed recently

I used to be with freeserve back in the dial up days, then it changed to wanadoo, then orange and now EE, I'm still with them.

:)

Same here. Got an email package, an @*******.eu domain and 5 users frow oneandone.co.uk hich works out at 69p per mnoth + annual domain fees. It delivers quickly to Outlook etc, Android and Ios and in past 3 years no spam or phishing emails. I also have Gmail accounts which I use for online services.

Not free but is individual and cheap.

Freeserve..... flash back time

I have a memory that Freeserve might have belonged to or was promoted by Dixons at some point. I think I was still with Compuserve at that time. Its one of those companies owned and merged with others. Now part of Orange/EE Broadband as mentioned above

You would be right on the Dixons front, I am fairly sure thats where I got my disk from

As well as my nice shiny new US Robotics dial up modem

My first modem cost over £200 for 2400bps. Got a USRobotics 28,00bps after and thought the future had finally arrived. Got 74mbs now and I miss the old days!

A lot of my spare time, in the last few days, has been spent changing my email address. Shame there is no central facility to do this in one swoop. Now done all except my home banking, credit cards & savings accounts as I need to make sure my brain is working properly for them.

Yes I recall my Freeserve 'dial up' days with those reassuring noises coming out as the connection was being made

My freeserve disc came with my connexant V92 modem 56k, I used to achieve around 44k if the wind was blowing in the right direction.

I think it was also from dixons

:)

I still use my freeserve email and broadband and have never changed. Its just over a tenner a month for 8 meg and unlimited- not sure if thats great but I don't like change lol. When asked for my email address i did have some one ask me to send it to them as they thought it was too long

I'm paying about the same & getting 17/18 meg down with 1 meg up for 60 GB pm with PlusNet & like you in Devon - Totnes.

I recently changed from all three of my Gmail accts to outlook as I could get the addresses I really wanted instead of the me366@whatever.com type email.

Wow, I pay £14 with sky(transferred from O2) for a 16MB line (10-11mb real life speeds) I thought I was paying loads.
