which dslr is best to start with?

I am looking to buy my first dslr but not sure what one to get I have been looking at the canon eos 1000d, the NIKON d3000, the Sony alpha a290 and the Sony alpha a390 and I would like it if someone could tell me which one would be best. Any help would be much appreciated
 
Probably the best thing to do would be go and try them all, get your hands on them and see if you like the handling, features etc. Some people like the layout and design of Canon, others prefer Nikon.
 
I can see why you have put this as a not safe for work, it contains talk of nikon and sony - very risky!!!

As a beginner in the world of photography I'd go and give them a try. Friends of mine have canon and were urging me to get the same, but when trying camera I found that the Nikon just felt better in my hands, and more intuitive to me.

I bought second hand, and have just upgraded from my Nikon D40

Find out what camera the best mate you have who has a DSLR has, and get the same. That way you can nick his lenses for "testing".
 
i have a sony a390, which is my first dslr. had it for 6 months now and love it, i toyed with the idea of switching to canon because of the extra availability of lenses/bodies etc. but i was bought a couple of minolta lenses for my birthday and for the money they are spot on, a 50mm f1.7 and a 70-210mm f4 for 80 quid each can't be bad in anyones book.

i looked at probably all the same cameras you are looking at when i was trying to decide on which one i wanted. i ended up picking the a390 because of the tilting screen and the addition of liveview, which neither the canon or nikon you've listed have. some people will tell you it's not that important but i think it really is a usefull addition, especially for getting down close to the ground to take pics of young nephews, neices or that sort of thing.

the in-body stability is a bonus, as is the 'function' button on the back of the camera which houses lot of the common settings you might want to play around with which makes it handy when you're just starting out when everything is in the one place.

it might sound like i'm biased towards sony here, but i have no experience with the other cameras listed so i can't comment on them. i hope the info has been usefull to you dude ;)
 
I went with the Canon eos 1000d, it's taught me a lot, has been great and I'm impressed with the quality, but now I want the Canon eos550 6 months later! :lol:
