Which do you recommend - the Canon EOS 100d or the Canon 600d?

Is there a night photography setting on the Canon EOS 600d or Canon EOS 100d cameras? Which is the best Canon digital SLR camera for taking pictures of buildings at night?

The 100D clear selling point is that it is very small and light for a DSLR. Do you need a camera that is small?, if not then the 600D may be a better bet as it has not been compromised by size (external buttons, larger grip etc,.)

FYI - It may have been better to have added this question to your ongoing "which Canon DSLR" thread rather than start a new thread.

I like both the 100D and the 600D. I could buy either and I have been told that both are good.

I was just wondering what the difference is between the two of them.

I started a new thread because I was not sure that my question - about a different point from the subject of the original thread - would have got noticed if it had been posted to the first thread.

100d has touch screen, (but i like buttons) 600d is slightly bigger and heavy but not alot to really notice, id take the 600d

The one with the better high ISO performance will be best for anything in low light but you'll also need a fast lens as well.

Okay, but it is all part of the same question. Just trying to reduce teh number of "what camera should I buy" threads :)

As for 100D or 600D both do pretty much the same, only you can decide which differences between them matter to you but you will get equally good pictures from either.

Probably just a decent tripod and ISO 100. There is not a lot between smaller canons made in the last 5 years or so - all use pretty much the same out of date sensor.

If you want a camera to take photographs of buildings at night, the last thing you need is a 'night photography' setting.

A good tripod is what you'll need. I don't want to sound patronising, but you should really start reading about photography rather than about the gear. I suppose there's a clue to your personality type in the username:D

But you really need to understand, the best camera in the world won't get you decent pictures, you have to do that! We're not camera operators, the clue is in the forum name - it's photography. I only mention this because I don't want you to go out and buy a camera, give up (again?) and the come back again next year asking for advice about the best Olympus to buy, as if the brand will make an ounce of difference.

I would pick a 650d over the 600d just for the screen :) Other than that it's pretty much the same thing.

Surely the question should be 100D or 700D? Being the 2 bodies released at the same time.

I do not know which one is better for low light - the 100d or the 600d? Or the 700d?

Thank you for your advice ernesto.

Thank you for your advice about the tripod and ISO daugirdas.

I will look at the 700d as well, Dave1. It has been recommended to me too.

Thank you for your reply.

The 600D and 100D are pretty much identical, the 100D is smaller (but has a larger viewfinder for some reason) and with it being newer I think it has higher ISO settings although that shouldnt matter because 25,600 will be unusable anyway. It also has the touchscreen, depending on if you want that or not? I dont see it as such a great addition, ive learnt using buttons and thats what im used to.
The 600D has the flip out screen which the 100D doesnt have though, and thats probably more useful than a touchscreen (if you want both go for the 650D). The 700D apparently isnt that different to the 650D at all which is why DigitalRev didnt compare it because its exactly the same or so they said.
Have a look on YouTube at the comparisons between them all, I personally like DigitalRevs videos.

How can they be deemed identical when the 100D is DIGIC 5 and the 600D is only DIGIC 4?

There is more of a similarity between the 100D, 650D and 700D with the 600D being one step older technology.

Ok so that's the only real significant difference, is it worth the extra £150+?
It's been commonly said that there isn't much difference between the 550D, 600D, 650D and 700D, I haven't used them so I don't know, I'm just going on what a lot of reviewers have said.

I think they get grouped by all being 18MP, if you are relying on sensor as a sole feature then the 7D would also be in the group, but as with any camera that's only one component, the processor is also important when noise and speed of use are included.

It would be fairer to group the 550D and 600D and then a smallish step up to the 100D, 650D and 700Dc
