So for some crazy reason I offered to do an hour long talk on my photography. 1 hour. Oh its this Wednesday too. People ranging from photography vets of 20 years to students and amateurs. Yup, crazy. To open I'm going to have a slideshow but I can't decide on the music. Heres my current faves with photos. I have a favourite but I won't say which to avoid tainting your perceptions. I'm guessing the voting will be spread with no clear winner :D

They're all good, 1, 6, 4, 3, 5, in that order with 2 being at the bottom. Good luck with the talk, where/when is it? I've only recently joined this board.

Wednesday, 7pm. Open Eye Gallery on Wood Street. Nice to see you dude :)

Air - Alone in Kyoto.

Sorted.

Just want to say I've been roaming through your website, all the Liverpool photographs, a lot of great ones, been a while since I've caught up on what you have been doing since you switched forums. You're really putting that 10mm to use :D I always have said this but you make Liverpool look great!

Hehe thanks :D I only ever go out with the 10-20 + 24-70. Though I want a 135mm f/2L now.

I'm for 2 personally but husband likes 4 cos it fits with some of the images.

Great photos by the way

Going against the grain so far :) while hdr1 is a good piece of background music and I would have said great if you'd presented it as a finished item I have to say that hdr2 gets my vote for it perfectly matching the drama of your photography.

You mean because it feels unfinished?

You mean because it feels unfinished?

Doh! No!
I mean that if you had just done that vid and put it up here for comments without showing us the other choices I would have said "Good job"
But... hdr2's music is a better choice for the dramatic nature of your work. :)

Ah I see. Well originally my intention was for a nice tune to compliment the music, but people didn't think it worked.

Go with 2 Pete, trust me, the music draws you into the feel of the photographs.

You have a fav though don't you and I bet it's not 2;)

That's exactly what I thought, the others felt a bit too much mmmm iyswim

Okay so no.2 is growing on me, it has more umpf which does suit the dramatic style of some of the photo's, the cathedral for example. I guess no.1 sounds better because its one I associate with a good film.

Got to be 2 its perfect
Bob:thumbs:

#2 suits the shots a bit better....the lead-in is a bit too long on some of them (imo).

Good luck which ever you decide!

No. 2 for me, because I pretty much recognise all the music but not this one. When you recognise music you might have certain connotations with it from the past, which may influence how you view the pictures. Probably what I just said is stupid, all music affects moods. But if it's music you never heard then you won't be coloured by it, think I shut up now probably don't make sense.

No 2 for me, just fits with the images better.

Well I'm going right out on a limb here and I'm going for 6:clap: I clicked the rest off before they had finished....but i've just watched 6 three times:thumbs: Yes I know where the track comes from.....and I think it works all the better for it;)

can i just say in the short time i have been around here, i have seen no work more inspirational than yours (and there is some tough competition), if i am able to achieve a small percentage of what you are capable of i will be happy.

but to the point of the post... going against the grain i think 3 is best music, but i would be tempted to alter the order of images.. going into some of the more colourful, powerful images after about 1:26 when the tempo ups - before that stay with the more sedate images

Thank you, thats very kind :) I'm still unsure of which to choose. By the numbers 2 is the safest bet at making most people in the room enjoy the slideshow. But I feel that half the song is the same. It only gets good during the last 3rd of the track... hmmmm.

To be blunt, I hate photography accompanied by music. So by proxy I hate all of them.

Also, are you charging for the talk?

Got time to edit the track Pete? Start it further in and double up on the "good" part.

It will work as it stands, don't sweat it.

I feel that the two should be put together. Music is such a big part of my life and if people get the music with the imagery then it works better than alone. Plus, nearly 5 minutes in a quiet room just watching a slideshow is a bit cold imho. Its free too :)

That's fair enough, Pete. But whenever a 'togs website or exhibition feature toons I just think "ugh". Not much help.

I hate websites that feature music but I think an actual slideshow in the way you are doing it pete would require music otherwise it would be very quiet.

Im putting on a slideshow tomorrow night for my canada pictures and I intend to have music, quite what i havnt decided yet though. Although my slideshow is only to a very small amount of people ~20 :p

HDR 4 for me.
Guitar and humming looks and sounds great with the the pictures.
Then we get to the pic with the banner "end the violence" the bass, piano and drums kick in adding to the dramatic effect to then go on to the police and the coffin I would say perfect.
Great set of pictures.
