Hi, looking for some advice,

Ive got about £400-£500 to spend on a new computer as my laptop is just to slow.

Any advice on what i should get? Been looking at second hand imac's and mac mini's, dont know much about them though.

Im using a Samsung R510, its an alright laptop, just doesnt show colour to well i dont think.

Got no software to lose really, have acces to CS4 on mac or windows

I don't think I would bother with second hand TBH

Are you looking to get a laptop or desktop?

With your sort of budget you can get a reasonable computer for the money. But unless you want to buy second hand you may be unable to get a Mac for that price. Even refurbished Mac mini's may strain you budget.

Personally I'm not a fan of second hand computers, unless you know where they are coming from.

Just had a quick look at the Dell web site. They have an Inspiron with 19" monitor for £350. OK it has some limitations but nothing major. It's comes with 2Gb of memory, but it looks as though you can upgrade that later. I'd personally pay the extra £19 and get the 500Gb hard drive.

So for around £360 you've got a half decent machine.

Have a look around and see what you can get for your money. Personally I'd go for a machine with 4Gb of RAM. a reasonable hard drive. and if you can get one, a wide screen monitor.

That's what I'd choose, but make your own mind up.
 
If you're buying a machine with the intention of upgrading the memory bare in mind that you will need a 64bit version of windows installed to recognise more then 4GB or ram (in practice the ceiling is slightly under 4GB). Windows 7 comes in either version make sure you're getting the 64bit version.
 
Thanks for all the advice people, think ill move away from the macs and see what i can get new for my budget
