Which Compact?

I need a second hand compact digital camera for a course I'm going to start in September.

It needs to be cheap but decent - bonus points for looking nice, and have some sort of zoom (doesn't matter what lengths). What I'm specifically after is the common shooting modes I can physically point out (landscape, portrait, macro etc as well as A, P & S?). I come from Fuji X so I can't demo my own camera (as that has manual controls). Ability to shoot raw would be nice but not a "must". Brand is unimportant.

The idea is to show that the camera doesn't matter - it's all about the ability to notice. As well as being able to show the difference (physically) between auto controls and manual.

Budget is £100 - £150 with a preference for around the £100 mark. Any advice?

If you do a quick search you'll see loads of "which compact" threads :)

Your search fu must be better than mine. I made it to page 6 and found only 2 useful threads. :)

Why weren't they useful? I've posted in quite a few myself as a Sony RX100 user and I thought you'd find the answer in some of those? Maybe there's more than I remember?!

Thirded!

Most relate to cameras that are way over my price range. The RX100 & G9 were the two I came away with that might be affordable (less likely the RX100 tbh). Like the X10 though, they're rare as hen's teeth on eBay. I was after more ideas from the community. Something I might not have thought of - like the LX3 or 5.

An X10 would be ideal, but finding one at my price point is not going to be easy. Saved Searches are my friend though - you never know.

(Edit to add "Fujifilm" gives far better results than "Fuji" - my search fu is certainly weak!)

Try putting a wanted add in the classifieds for an X10, you never know.

Fujifilm finepix x10 - it seems the finepix part helps on eBay. There seems to be several available at present ending today or 4th March with bids of £100 or less.
