Can anyone help please? I have been looking at reviews through DP review, digital camera magazine and other places, and have managed to totally confuse myself. I am buying my nephew a digital compact to take to australia with him. looking to pay about £200 ish, but flexible and have looked at

Canon Ixus 75
sony cybershot Cs
Panasonic Lumix new one. decided against after looking at reviews
and some others.

Its's all too confusing. He used my canon ixus 60 and found that the pictures were blurred when he took action shots, but I think that was more he didnt use any of the settings!

I got a Fuji F31fd awhile ago as a back up compact to slip in my bag and I'm very happy with it. :)

Excellent in low light, great battery life (a plus if travelling ;) ) and face detection. :D

And it can be had for around the £120 mark at the moment (online). No need to spend all your money if you don't have to. ;) Leaves more than enough money for a case, memory card(s) and possibly an extra battery. :D

Something else to confuse you anyway.

Compacts are not too good for action shots generally because of the shutter lag most of them suffer from. As to which one, there are so many and the range changes so rapidly that it's near impossible to recommend one over another unless you're lucky enough to have some personal experiene of a current model, as redhead17 has.

Whatever camera you get him, remember to budget for extra memory/batteries as well unless he's going to get that himself.

Will second the F31fd, Never left my side for two weeks when i went to the Dominican. Even went scuba diving with it (In a waterproof DicaPac bag of course!)

Took an average of 500-600 shots per charge with it (including lots of 'playback to show people what i had taken)

I got a F31fd as well i am happy with mine, quick enough too catch my two young nephews, aparently it is cheapest from techno.co.uk according to matt.
