Which Canon for moving shots?

I stupidly sold my Canon 6D to downgrade to a Bridge camera.
I dont like the quality as much as people said might happen.
But i was buying a horse and needed the funds.
ANYWAY
Ive got about £700 to spend on a decent ( as possible ) Canon Dslr , I mostly take photos of my kids, Dogs and horses so need something capable of taking moving pics ( horses at gallop etc )
What should i look at?
I saw a Canon EOS 1D Mark III around £550?
Also which lens?
 
Any DSLR will be able to capture moving people/horses so long as the lenses are able to keep up too. The 1D range are clearly the sports' shooter staple but I wouldn't rule out a cheaper body (60/70D) etc and give yourself more budget for the lens.
 
With regards to the lens, you need more detail. Will you be close, further away, good light, low light etc. Generally, you want the fastest aperture for lower light so 2.8 or quicker. Standard zoom range on a crop camera will be 17-50mm so there's the Canon (17-55), Tamron (17-50) or Sigma. Alternatively, a prime lens like a 50/1.8 or 85/1.8 will give better low light performance but obviously no zoom capability. What did you shoot on your 6D?

Both low light or light, Near and far

pretty much any modern dSLR will take pictures of horses at speed, but a Canon 7D for about £ 300 should do the trick and you may get lucky and find a Canon 100-400 L for £ 400, if not a 70-200 F/4 L will be within budget and thats a nice sharp and lightweight lens.
 
I might be selling my 1D MK 3 and 17-40 L for £700 this week if you have any interest.
 
an 80d is not that far out of your price range
 
And the 70/200 will take an extender (1.4) really well to give you more reach should you occasionally need it at a really cheap price..

I don't think it has been said by the OP whether the £700 includes a lens or not...

it says for a dslr in the op, and says £550 for a camera as well. so i had asumed it was just for the camera. but yep if its all in then the 7d/ 70/200 f4 would work very well
 
I'd recommend the 7d for a high quality low price DSLR. Sure it has it's flaws, but it really can't be beaten for the price a low use one can be picked up at. A nice 70-200 2.8 lens would be good, though you might have to settle for a sigma right now.

It says £700 and that she's found something for £550

The 7d is an absolute bargain atm, our first one was over £1200 and worth every penny.

am i missing something ? you just repeated me with different wording:confused::D yep the 7d is very good price at the moment
 
Can i use a Canon 24-105mm with a 7D ok?
or go with a 2.8?
Or would i be better going for Sigma 70-200 2.8 if cheaper

Reading through a post in the Equipment thread, lots of people are saying the 7D is high on noise?

Yep, as per my last post.

How about something like a 700d and a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 (I use the Sigma on my 6d and it's excellent, as long as you get the EX HSM2 and above)?

Shouldn't have got rid of the 6d :)

Ha yes i know i was waiting for that!! I love my new horse though.
Im thinking after researching paying a bit more and going for Canon 7d mkii?? or Canon 1d mk lV?
arrghhhh getting a headache lol
 
A 7D2 or 1D4 will be around the £ 800 mark for a secondhand one, and you still need to buy lenses, so your £ 700 budget is going to be blown out of the water.

A 7D and a 70-200 f/4 L could be obtained secondhand for around £ 600 and you're not likely to lose money on the lens, and the 7D body will depreciate slowly. Its still a capable camera.

It has a bad press, because the files really get noisy if you try to abuse them.

Well exposed shots look fine (not up to Sony sensor standards)
 
70-200 is a good shout but as you are looking at a crop sensor you might find you want something shorter too as depending on where you are shooting 70 on a crop can actually become quite long. That's the issue I found at last weekends horse trials.
 
have a look at the 80d I suggested before, the new sensor is great and the auto focus is rated well
