Ok folks, I'm looking to upgrade the 350D. I've had a look around the net, I have about £2k to spend, which one would be the best to go for. I seem to be floating between the 7D, 700D, or 60D.

Help..... which is preferrable and why?

Thanks

What sort of photography do you want to do? Sports, landscapes, portrait or what?

What you need really depends on what you want to shoot. If you shoot sports and wildlife then a 7D would be up there, if that's not your thing then a 700D or maybe hang on for a 70D when that comes out.

If you want to shoot low light scenes go with a 6D, but then you'll need to make sure your existing lenses are FF compatible (EF only and not EF-S) or you'll need to factor that into your budget. I'm waiting for the 70D release to see if it's good enough to exchange my 7D for one as I find the 7D a tad 'noisy' at higher ISO level for me.

Cheers for the replies folks.

I guess most of what I do is between portrait and landscape, although I do some offroad photography from time to time. So a bit of everything.

This is a hobby for me, nothing more.

Just got the 60D and more than happy with it.

For portraits and landscapes I would say this is probably the best choice out of the 3, I always thought the 7D was more for bird/sports photography. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

Also its quite a bit cheaper so extra £££ for glass and other accessories.

I'd go 6D for landscapes & portraits.

Detail level will help with landscapes and thinner apparent dof will help with portraiture.

For landscapes the 60D for sure, why? The flip out screen makes it so much easier to view in live mode. I had a 600D that had the same thing and I just upgraded to the 5D markIII and really miss the flip out part. Don't get me wrong i love my new camera but I really wish this was standard on all Canons.

I would have thought the FF advantages of low noise, high iso, better DoF, etc. would outweigh a flip out screen actually.

As most of your photography will be portraits and landscape then I would go for a 6d. I have this and the 7d. The 7d is better for action photography but the 6d as a full frame does give better IQ and is the better lowlight camera. You will need decent lenses though as FF photography uses the full width of the glass whereas cropped bodies shoot through the centre. Cheap lenses tend to give soft corners on FF bodies.

What lenses do you have now that are EF mount. If you go for the 6D you will need to factor in the extra cost for lenses. A 6D with a 24-70 f2.8 (Canon, Sigma or Tamron) lens will be a great set up but even if you go for an import the camera and 1 lens will be a big chunk of your budget.

I got my 5D3 from Hdew cameras and they have the 6D http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/new-canon-6d-body-only-1167-p.asp for £1149 at the moment. They're a great company and I heartily recommend them. They also have a Canon 24-70 MkI for £899 or a 24-105 f4 for £569 so if you do decide on a 6D you'll need to think wisely about which lenses you need.

As your sig says your in Lincs, if you're anywhere near Branston, near Lincoln and want to try any of my lenses just drop me a PM and sort out a time.

6D or perhaps 5D mark 2. Both great for landscape and portrait.

For lens, 24-105mm f4 that gets bundled as a kit would work great. Then a 85mm f1.8 for portraits. No need for the f2.8 lens.

I was in similar boat...with a 2k budget you can get close to a 6D + 24-105mm L + 70-200mm F4.

That will be a whole new world compared to your 350D.

That's the new 24-70 f4 with IS not the 24-70 f2.8 mk1 lol

Brain fart moment. Course it's the 24-70 f4, TBH I thought the f4 was going for a lot more than that so assumed it was an old stock MkI. :bang:

Offer still open to try the lenses I have that you're interested in though. 24-105 f4L or a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 HSM and soon a Canon 17-40 f4L or any others in my bag.

Another vote for the 60D :D I love mine, it's amazing! Just have to hurry up and get free time to edit and upload photos, I love how it feels on the hand :)

I eventually went with the 60D, with a spare battery & battery grip, a EF 100mm F2.8L and a few bits & bobs extra. What a revelation, it makes the 350 look pitiful.

Thanks for the advice folks.

Hey guys the op did not mention he was looking to upgrade to full frame. He listed the cameras he was trying to get help deciding with.

Are you seriously suggesting that not everyone has to have a full frame? :)
