At present I have a canon 450d, I'm buying a canon mk2 70-200 , I will mostly be photographing horse events, indoor ( so low light ) and outdoors!
I was thinking of a 7d?? Or what would be best around that price range?
Also maybe some primes for indoor events??
Advice needed please

The new 650D has a good set of features such as high ISO, decent fps rate, all cross point AF system, Digic5 processor, new 18Mp sensor and the touchscreen is excellent, and with excellent video capabilities as well. It is very good, but it's not quite a 7D, which gives you a better AF system, better build and ergonomics. Couple the 7D with the Canon 70-200 MkII and I'm sure it'll be a good enough set up for anything you throw at it. Have a look at Hdew cameras or Panamoz for some great prices with very good service. I'm looking at ordering a 70-200 MkII from Panamoz any day now and can't wait to try it on my 5D3.

Is the 5D3 better then the 7D?

erm yes and also £1600 more expensive. I have a 7d yours for about £1000 from good retailers

look for the 5d mkii
if you saw my thread i got one for £1000
so new/secondhand 7d can be around £800ish
and a 5d mkii around £1000ish

depends if you want a crop x1.6 or full frame

Prefer full frame, Which one is crop frame?

So is your 450d
So the 7D has same focal length but better quality
The 5D mkii is the true representation of the focal length
So you would maybe need to get closer
Also do you need 8pics per sec or 4

5dmk2 is cablable for equestrian.

i wouldnt go down the primes route personally, too limiting especially for indoors where you dont really want to be cropping high ISO shots.

I sold my 7D and 5D2 to get a 5D3 and IMO the 5D3 is better than the best bits of the 5D2 and 7D put together, however you're looking at a minimum £2,000 for one at a guess. I got £1,150 for my 5D2 and £850 for my 7D IIRC but you should be able to get a decent 5D2 for around a £1,000.
With a 5D2 and a 70-200 f2.8 IS L MkII you should be able to get some great equine shots. I managed to get wildlife, BIF and sports with my 5D2 and used the 5D2 about 85-90% of the time. When I realised how little I used the 7D I decided I'd be better off selling them both and getting the 5D3.
Unfortunatly I missed having a backup body though so I decided to add a 60D to my bag and have since got a 650D for the wife. If I couldn't have the 5D3 though I'd definitely go for a 5D2 instead. The IQ and DOF of FF make it a better allrounder for me.

Thankyou Modchild, thats helpful!
Ill do a bit more reading me thinks!
