Hi there,

I'm quite new to photography and was looking for info on what make of Digital Camera's the best...

Thanks

None are the best, each has its own pros and cons, each has its own userbase.

In terms of popularity, Nikon and Canon are the leading brands, with Pentax, Olympus and Sony following up behind.

Another slight difference between them - Sony + Pentax offer Image Stabilasation (IS) in the body of the camera, where as Canon + Nikon are lens specific...

Your best option, is to try some out and see which you prefer - what 1 person likes, another will dislike...

Slight correction - in terms of total camera sales it's Canon & Sony 1st & 2nd with iirc Nikon 3rd but in terms of DSLR only sales it's Canon & Nikon 1st & 2nd with Sony 3rd.

In terms of popularity, like last post says, as to what makes the best thats up to the user.

In terms of camera sales isn't Samsung top? Not in DSLR's but they sell boat loads of compacts through supermarkets and the like.

That doesn't answer the OP's question but to even begin too I think that a little more info is required such as what type of camera? Compact, bridge, CSC, DSLR? What the OP wants to take pictures of and how much dosh is in the kitty.

many companies sell lots of compacts in supermarkets and other non camera specific stores.

Indeed. But few if any sell more than Samsung :D

I've been very happy with my Samsung NX10. There is an updated version (NX11) and I think models NX20/100/200. Does everything I want but I suspect didn't take off in competition with Canon/Nikon.

I try my best Alan (as you know :) )

I am still not sure if the question was not troll based but have to give the benefit of the doubt. However, asking what is the best is so subjective there is no answer so all anybody can do is give opinion.
For me it is Leica based on the operation of camera, lens quality, look and feel of camera etc,. and if money was no object I would have one tommorow without looking at anything else. So to me, that makes it the best.

if you include phones with cameras in them possibly but in terms of dedicated cameras they are 4th (& essentially nowhere in terms of interchangeable lens bodies)
