Hi all,

I'n new here, so be gentle. A couple of years ago I got stuck into my Canon 450D and I must say at the time I was impressed, having never used a DSLR before.

To cut a long story short*, My friend was starting a Photography and Film course but had no camera, So I sold him everything i had. 450D, kit 18-55mm and my beloved 50mm 1.4 all for £350....what can i say, i'm too nice.

...Really wished i'd kept that 50mm 1.4 :bonk:

I'd like to get back into the swing of things and give it more of my time so I need a new beast to play with, any suggestions are welcome. Right now i've got it narrowed down to a few camera's. I like to shoot rock concerts, landscape mainly at night, portrait, products, wildlife, Also like making my own little short films.7D would be great for mini music-documentaries.

Canon 7D, Nikon d7000 or Nikon d300s?

* I realise that this thread didn't turn out to be as short as I had hoped, thank's for the patience:thumbs:

canon 7d its recognised as the best of the list you have, had it came out a few months after I got my 50D real bummer but waiting to go full frame now

where is this reconised,
there all very good cameras, the d300 and 7d have better build quality than the d7000 but the d7000 has the best iso, the d300 has the most af points then the d7000 and then the canon, the nikons are better weather sealed. af speeds is awsome on all 3.

go try all 3 and then decide.

A friend of mine mentioned getting the 7D and supplementing it with Nikon lenses via an adapter, could this be an option? I know Af wouldn't really work but I do like the idea of this.

It's possible. 'The Corpse Bride' was shot that way, I believe.

However, you'd have to stop down the aperture manually prior to the shot in order for the metering to work (Av or manual would be fine).

If you've already got access to a load of Nikon lenses, then why not get a Nikon body and be done with it? If you haven't got access to a load of Nikon lenses and, indeed, need to acquire all your lenses, then, in my opinion, you'd be best off getting kit that mates together naturally without adaptors, as it's normally just easier, no matter what the brand.

Definitely try all three out.

The D7000 has the newest sensor with the best dymanic range and ISO performance, but the 7D and D300 can shoot faster and are (probably marginally) better built.
If you have access to some good nikon lenses that should definitely sway things, glass makes the difference for image quality.

Apart from the feel of the bodies and the button layout, have a look at the lens ranges. Something exclusive to either canon or nikon might catch your eye (for example the nikkor 35mm f/1.8 DX or the canon 70-200 f/4L).
