I am currently considering getting back into photography as I miss it. I used to have a Nikon D90 with kit lens, 70-300mm lens and SB900 flashgun.

I sold it all earlier this year to focus all attention towards my fiance who was having some health problems where ovarian cancer was brought up by the doctors which put the wind up us but luckily scans so far have not revealed this and could end up just being IBS but hopefully further tests will enlighten us as to what the problem is.

Anyway, long story short I should have just put camera away in the cupboard for a while but with saving for a house as well I thought the money would be a boost.

I have been looking at cameras and can't make up my mind what to do. I was considering just repurchasing a Nikon D90 since I know its layout and how to work it and alway produced excellent images. But I have also been considering the new Nikon D7000 or making the switch to Canon and going for the 60D. Opinions?

My budget would be about £1100 max and at a push and the types of photography I am interested in is landscapes which I haven't really done before and model photography which I used to do a lot of.

Also because the camera purchase will clear me out and prevent me from buying flashguns etc for now, I would be doing some natural light model photography. Anyone with any good websites etc for this would be much appreciated.

Colleague here has the d7000 - very nice it is too... jessops I believe do interest free, which would mean you could put a large deposit on and get two lenses...

Ah but which two...

Reading on here wide is good for landscapes... I have the ultra wide 11-16 tokina at 450 ukp for new its a push but does have a constant f2.8 should you need it (although f4 or f8 seem to work best).

For model shoots I guess somewhere around the 30mm or 50mm f1.4 or f2 perhaps (nicer bokeh).

Second hand d90 or maybe a d300s..? might be an option. Would give you more to play with on the lens side...
 
It sounds like you've got a lot going on in your life, I hope that all goes ok.

Why not just stick with what you are familiar with and know will give you good results, another D90? Will a newer camera improve your photography?
 
Cheers for replies. Yea I am leaning towards a D90 with either kit lens or going for a new/used body only and then spending a bit more on a good lens to get me started in both model and landscape photography
 
What would be the best all round lens to cover model and landscape photography? Say I get the D90 for £600, I would have between £400-£500 to play with

I also have an old kit lens from the D40 I used to own, the 18-55mm which I could use to get me started in the landscapes and then invest in a good lens for the model photography.

What is best for full body model photography, 35mm, 50mm or 85mm or something else?

My final option is use the old kit lens, get a nifty fifty and use the spare cash to get a flashgun. Decisions lol
 
Well geebs, you have your plate full, been there . . . My partner went through similar worrying scenario 18 months ago, turned out to be an ovarian cyst, recovery has been a bit protracted, but things are good now :thumbs:

As far as cameras go, I am looking at the same options. My rational has been, 'the washing machine scenario' :thinking: . . . Buy new washing machine, top of range, 95 programs, all singing, all dancing. You actually only use 3 or 4 programs, these were also on the base machine. The wasted programs; just ego . . . the money saved would buy a lot of washing powder:lol:

I have looked at the D7000, very nice . . . Ferrari type drool :naughty: . . . but I wont use (dont need?) a fraction of its potential.

60D . . . I feel very uncomfortable about the relearn and there does seem to be a 'lot' of posts; 'I have a problem with my Canon xxx'?

D90, well tried and tested, there are going to be a lot of lightly used bodies on the market in 2011 . . . and might be a bit of a sale in the new year?

Lenses . . . sold my 18-200VR, so heavy, I use the superb Nikon 18-70 f3.5-4.5, £75-£100 SH! There is a Nikon 50mm f1.8 for low light, and I keep a Sigma 70-300 APO HSM in the draw for the od long shot. These serve my curent needs.
